Thanks Imagine! It's funny, I have seen probably 3/4 of all vaping videos on the internet and the vapor production from these high-end mods really doesn't seem more than my Volt. It just bugs me that all reviewers say the Volt is a "newbie" device. What is wrong with simplicity?

I know!! It seems like everyone 'poo poo's' the cig-sized pv's in the New Members forum :grr: and everyone tells newbies to get an ego/riva/kgo. However, I think many of the people giving advice started with a 510 which has a very short battery life, and they've never even tried a Volt so they think all slim e-cigs are created equal. IMHO, after trying several pv's (including an Ego which I never liked), the Volt blows 'em all away.

My apologies if it seems like I'm going on a rant, but I've been very frustrated with some of the advice I've been seeing in the New Members' forum lately. If someone is looking for something the size of a cigarette, they want something the size of a cigarette. Fine, give them info on other options, but it kinda seems like this:

Question: I'm looking for a compact car that looks good, is cheap on gas, has a good warranty, and is affordable. Any suggestions?
Answer: Get an Escalade.
Question: But I want a compact car...??
Answer: No you don't. You only think you want a compact car. Get a Hummer.

I love my Volt, so I'm always recommending it in the New Members forum when someone asks about something simple that looks similar to an analog. Along come 30 other posters telling the newbie to stay completely away from cig-sized pv's because they suck and will only last 30-45 mins (not true). Some people tell newbies to get a mod. Very frustrating. It's kind of like your advice can't be respected unless you vape something the size of a flashlight or some boxy wooden thing you hook up to a car battery. lol.

Sure, the Volt battery doesn't last 16 hours between charges, but a 78mm certainly lasts 2 1/2 to 3 hours or more, (depending on how heavily you vape), it produces a nice warm vape and huge plumes of vapour. AND you don't look like you're smoking a flashlight, so it makes it a little easier to blend into the crowd. lol. And when your battery dies? Big deal! Throw it in your pcc to charge and take out a fresh one. I use my passthrough when even I'm at my laptop or in my car anyway, so I only use my batteries once in a while or when I'm out and about.

Now I'm not putting down big box mods or provari-type pvs. Different strokes for different folks. But for someone looking for a simple cig-sized pv that performs very well, the Volt is a great pv to start with AND stick with. And the cherry on the sundae is that Smokeless Image's customer service ROCKS and cannot be beat!

Whew! Okay - now I feel better for getting that off my chest. I didn't have enough guts to say it in the New Members' Forum, so I came to a safe place. lol.

Wishing all my fellow Volties a very happy holiday season!

May your holiday trees shine as bright as a diamond-capped green Volt LED. :D

LOL thanks Eleanor. I only wanted to post it among 'friendlies' because I don't want to get into it with some of the members that regularly provide advice in the New Members forum. They can be very set in their ways, and think their way is the only way.

I'll keep recommending the Volt to people who are looking for a fabulous pv. In fact, I've resorted to pm'ing newbies to tell them about the Volt when it seemed like they were being bulldozed on the forum and could use some reassurance that they're not 'ridiculous' for wanting something cig-sized. I send them to this thread to see all the people who are very happy with their Volts!

Cheers!

You hit the nail on the head.......Very well said!

I too have run through the gambit over the last 2 years. I started with a small cig style device brand I will not name but just say it didn't work so I started trying many different devices trying to fine a better vape but just becoming more frustrated with having to tweak/tinker/mod so much that I was about to give up.

Then I found the Volt and decided to give it a try. When I ordered it I really was not expecting it to work out but thought I would give it a try since it was not a large investment so I would not be out much money. And now 5 months later and I am extremely happy I chose the Volt.

That's an excellent take on many of the conversations in the New Members. Funny, too. Good on you for sending PM's. - that's a great idea.

In my opinion, if they want a cig size, they should get one. If they want something more later, they can do that. Some people seem stuck in the past, when the mini size meant mini performance. The first M401 I tried two years ago was certainly like that, and the 501 I bought next wasn't much better. So I ended up building a 14500 box mod, which I sill use when I'm on a job because I can get 6 or more hours of the battery and it fits well in my pocket. Plus I like dripping. Still like the Volt for driving, and relaxing in front of the TV.

I don't see how anyone can be unhappy with a Volt. It may not be their personal perfect PV in the end, but it's definitely a great way to start. It's the one I recommend to anyone looking into vaping.

Yeah, I had a feeling you would. I had to push and prod him to do that one!
DM, I think you have to work on a reptile one next! :)

Uh....don'tcha think snake skin qualifies?

I wish SI would get those soft rubbery drip tips like B---- carries. Really inexpensive, couple of dollars for a 5 pack, and about the most comfortable I've ever used for hands free vaping. Not much for bling but they look ok, especially on a black battery with black carto. Guess what color they are. They're cheap enough to use to let friends try vaping as well.

Lunabella you expressed my frustrations and ire with the new members forum exactly. With the exception of Dormouse and a few others who present facts about the different pvs available, I wish the modders would just stay in the modders forum. They're doing more damage than good in confusing the new vaper with tons of false information and totally ignoring the new persons needs and request in their op. When I got my first Riva on their advice I didn't mind the button or the size so much but the fiddling with atomizers, carts, trying to drip etc. almost sent me back to analogs, plus I hated the attention it drew in public and having to explain ten times a day to people what it was. Not conducive to imitating the smoking habit or developing a comfort zone until I got used to vaping. I think some of them downright lie about cig size to promote their agenda, especially one Darwin salesman. He must be lieing becasuse I'm sure he's not that ignorant. Others have probably just tried the older inefective small bats and now paint all cig size with the same brush. Either way they are so removed from being new they are spouting confusing advice. If you follow the newcommers posts after asking which one to buy in a few days when they get their order you'll see their posts asking for help because their new pv isn't working or the atty smells bad or a multitude of other problems trying to get started. Soon after you may or may not hear from them again depending on how badly they want to stop smoking or whether they've thrown the pv in the drawer and written it off as too much trouble and a bad investment. You just don't see that many or those kind of problems in the 808 forums. Rolygate said it best in a post. 510s are for people who like to fiddle and 808s are for people who don't. Wish I still had that link because nothing has been more of the truth.
One good rant deserves another.

So lately I have been looking at mods and variable voltage devices, all while sitting at my computer using my Volt. Am I missing something with these items, or is the Volt sufficient? Just curious.

If you just want to see what all that hype is about do yourself a favor and buy an inexpensive vv passthrough instead of expensive mods to see if you like it. But be prepared to spend some money on the different ohm cartos, fillerless cartos etc. trick attys and be prepared to be tethered. Not to the usb connection but to the device in one hand and a bottle of juice in the other while adjusting, dripping and chasing the perfect vape. Who knows, maybe you'll find it. Nobody has yet in spite of spending thousands of dollars and countless hours searching. I own a few of those devices and SteelJan used to mod. Ask her. When you go down on voltage you'll have to come down on carto and atty ohms. Lower voltages take more resistance which is lower ohms. Example, 3.3 volts needs 2.0 or lower ohms While 5volts uses about 3ohms and above. Then you get into high voltage stuff which you find on vendors sites. When you do the math you're going to wind up with the same watts. If you like fiddling with stuff and spending money you're definitly missing something. If you like about the same results and like keeping it simple and effective you ain't missin nuthin. If you're looking for a hobby take up golf. Not nearly as frustrating and probably about the same cost. For me this ain't no hobby. There are a couple of subtle advantages like battery life or bottom feeders but not enough to make it worth it to me. Screw on a carto, put my extras in my pocket and out the door and nothing to leak or spill all day.
