Hijacking this thread a bit.. I just got a kayfun lite + to go on my new provari mini. The guy I bought it from (B&M) built it with a 2.0ohms microcoil (and cotton wick). I asked him why since I'd been reading everywhere Kayfuns are better between 1.2 and 1.8. He said he does that because it gives you a wider range to adjust the voltage.

Would you guys advise running it with something lower (not planning on sub-ohming) ? Does it really make a difference when we can adjust the voltage ? I'm mainly chasing flavor, don't really care that much about vapor production.

The KF is running H1N1, but I'll soon get a couple clones (EHpro) that I've yet to decide what I'll use them for. One of them will probably end up running something fruity and low nic.

Note - I've never built a coil. Planning on playing with that once I get the EHPros. I have 28, 29 and 30 kanthal.

I am a flavor chaser. I build my KFL's at 1.2 Ohms and they are happy. One thing about them with cotton: make sure when you thread the cotton through the coil that you can easily move the cotton from one side to the other. If it is tight, even on one end you will get dry hits. The ends of the cotton need to touch the deck and not lay down on it. Be sure that you do not put cotton over the juice channels as it will restrict the flow and keep it from touching all the cotton strand ends. Once you build and wick it, wet the cotton with juice before you cap it. Always fill from the bottom screw. If you fill from the top, you will release the vacuum that the KF needs to work properly and it will leak. Let it sit a good 10 to 20 minutes after filling on a new build before you start vaping. Take short, brief hits the first couple of pulls and then you are good to go!
If you want some help or encouragement with the first build, do not hesitate to ask. Once you build that first one you will realize how easy it is!

Thanks !

What's the difference between 1.2 and 2.0 ?

(apart from 0.8 lol)

Also, the guy put the ends of the wick up the chimney, not on the deck... again, what's the difference in results ?

1.2 will give you faster coil heat up times. At 2.0 you may have to wait a couple of seconds before you start getting flavor. I personally do not like below 1.2 on the KFL as it heats too hot and changes the flavor in ways I do not like.

You can always start with your first coil at 1.6. When you change wicks (each time you change flavors, or every 3 to 4 tanks), dry burn the coil before putting the new cotton in. Don't heat it too long, just long enough to turn it red. You may have to do it more than once for darker juices. This will prolong the life of your coil. I go an easy 2 months between coils. With proper care, they last a while.

You should try the cotton in the chimney and the cotton "on deck" to find which one you prefer. Everyone vapes differently, so you have to find which works for you. If you opt for the on deck method, the suggestions I made above will prevent you from having dry hits. Since you can change cotton easy between tanks, it is simple to try a different method.

I set up my KFL + with a single 1.5 ohm micro coil with cotton wick through the coil and just touching the deck. The only mistake I made was using my 18mg juice in it. WHOA! I loved the throat hit and flavor but the nic sickness hit me pretty hard. Gonna have to cut down to 12mg in that thing.

Is recommended if you switch from a clearo to a RBA you lower your nicotine... same for RBA>RDA. I went from 18>12 when I went from Aerotank to kayfun. Still using 12 even in my RDA's

I will do that, thanks.

Yes, it took me a while to get used to it. The first few puffs almost kicked my ..... I loaded my first tank at 12, and I usually vape 12 or 18. I will also have to lower it in the KF. Good thing I ordered my 50ml of H1N1 in 6mg because I wanted to let it steep (which, obviously, is not gonna happen, hem).

I found this true also with my KF. Started with my normal 18mg, wow nico high, went down to 12mg and the buzz was a bit lighter.
6mg nic at 1.2ohm with cotton works nicely. Seriously thinking about 0mg now. I've used all types of RBA AND RDA'S and the kayfun
Has been the best overall for ease of built and best in flavor and vapor. My I-go M with duel sub-ohm coils rocks but eats up juice like crazy.

I usually run my KFL+ at around 1.6-1.8. I tried a 1.2ohm once at 3.8 volts, which is around 12w I think, and it burned the cotton DOH! Made me scarrrrrred to try it again. What volts/watts are you guys using at 1.2ohms?

I use a Nemesis mechanical mod so my volts are what the battery will supply. Starting at 4.2 and works its way down as the battery drains. Only time I
Burned my cotton was if the juice ran out or I had poor wicking. Hope that helps.

Maybe I had too much cotton in the coil. When I tried it I didn't have too much experience with building coils. I'll try again this weekend. My mother in law is staying with us for a few days....Perfect opportunity to go to the man cave and dissappear for a few hours lol

Not wanting to hijack your thread either but my questions seem to apply here. Nice fellow at my local vape store built my coil for my kayfun yesterday. He said it was reading .9 ohms. My ohm meter reads 946. Do the decimals not show when it drops below 1 ohm? Also I plan on using it on my MVP 2 or my SID. Most of my juices are 12mg. Is that .9 going to be too low?

If its reading .9 ohms it won't work on an MVP. Most box type ohm meters will only read to the nearest hundredth.

12mg in the Kayfun does me right. 6mg in the dripper, 12mg is too punchy.

3.7-4v, not sure what that translates into in terms of wattage

OK thank you. So I guess that leaves me the SID to use with it. Also can I assume from your answer that it is correct that the number 946 with no decimals on the ohm meter does mean .9? Sorry to be so dense but I just want to be clear on this. Thanks again!

it is actually 0.946 but like I said most ohm readers only go to nearest hundredth... for a mod that reads ohms it would be 0.9 but I assume you have some fancy meter so it goes to nearest thousandth.

This would be my guess. Too much cotton restricts the amount of liquid feeding the coil.

Also 4volts on a 1.2ohm is 13 watts

http://www.the12volt.com/ohm/ohmslawcalculators.asp <- very useful tool also theirs apps for smartphones just search ohms law calcultors
