Ohms law and newbie rebuilder

So i have an MVP v2 that ive just purchased some goodies for!

Kanger protank 3
A kayfun 3.1 clone
Trident rda

As well as all the goodies needed for rebuilding, kanthal, nichrome, ohms meter ect

My question relates to ohms and sub ohms.. Ive heard and read that the big mech mods are capable of crazy high watts.. My mvp isnt.. Thats fine!!

But with a sub ohm or low ohm coil ive been reading (based on the below chart) my ideal watts should be lower than expected. I thought the idea behind sub ohm stuff was you need higher watts... But im obviously missing something..

That being said I AM NOT ATTEMPTING SUB OHM ON AN MVP!! Just a general question.. I assumed id have to run my mod at a high watts with a lower coil 1.3-1.6 but i appear to be wrong. Just trying to learn lots before my stuff arrives!

i'm not sure i understand you question

With a mech the amount of watts you can get would depend on the battery you are using. Assuming an 18650 the disharge rate can vary a few amps to 30 amps.

Say you were using 0.5 ohm coil at 4 volts then your disharge rate would be 0.8 amps or 32 watts. For a 0.8 amp discharge you need a 10 amp battery. For a higher discharge and more watts you can go to a 30 amp battery.

if you have a VV/VW unit IT wont let you do ohms less than 1.2 on average the chip is self protecting it will shut down when it senses ohms below its safe parameters. But just to understand low ohm/sub ohms, Watts are created by a voltage and a resistance. Lets say you have a set voltage and vary the ohms, the Watts will change, the lower the ohms, the higher the watts will go if the volts stay the same. On the other hand, you keep the ohms the same and vary the voltage, the watts will change too. You keeps the ohms at 1 and increase the volts, the watts increase. Sooo if you increase voltage and drop ohms, you get insane watts...

the reason for sub ohm? well i dont know. imo it ruins the flavor of the juice, i get nic'd out and my throat hurts unless im purely vaping vg.

but as for rebuilding your devices, leave it .8 or higher and the mvp will be fine. on the rebuildable dripper use some 30ga kanthal and youll be fine with a simple build.

i have the mechs and the drippers and all that. but several times ive stole the wifes mvp just for a simple vape. she has a protank 2 on it. flavor is good. i like it. might have to get me one. lol.

every question you have that depends on that chart should be tossed out the window.
the chart is just a general guideline for prebuilt devices and is not mandatory and even less relevant for rebuilding. you can easily build a trident to handle anything you want to throw at it well into the 50 watt range.
for the mvp or something similar shoot for the 1.5 -2.0 ohm range and that way you will have plenty of room to adjust up or down

the chart has been designed to take into consideration the vapor point of nicotine and VG/PG. Nicotine has a vapor point of about 200 degrees F, VG has a VP of about 320 degrees F. Therefore, the chart gives you a watt range of "acceptable" temps to make use of the vapor point of the juice. The "red" zone has the capacity to burn the juice even before it vaporizes. The blue zone, basically vaporizes the nicotine and not the VG/PG, leaving you with a harsh throat hit due to pretty much straight nic vapor.

When you do sub-ohms, the chart is worthless. Sub-ohms is another ball game altogether.

The only reason I've seen to sub-ohm is to chase clouds. It might be fun to try that someday, but it's not going to be an all-day kind of thing for most people.

This is something I've been wondering as well, and I hope some one can provide an answer. If the liquids I use will taste burnt if I go above 10 watts on a vw device, why would going over 30 watts with the same liquids be better on a mech mod? Is it the topper, and would an RBA/RDA therefore allow me to use higher watt settings on a vw device? Do the low ohms allow the liquid to be subjected to more power without tasting burnt? Or will 30+ watts on a much have some positives that outweigh the burnt taste that one will get? I'll be getting my first mech mod soon, and while I'm planning on using a kick and have no immediate wish to explore subohm coils the subject interests me (enough to have ordered a couple of 30 amp batteries).

Do the low ohms allow the liquid to be subjected to more power without tasting burnt? Or will 30+ watts on a much have some positives that outweigh the burnt taste that one will get?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark at this one, only because I know a little about physics and chemistry. So, It is only conjecture. I'm guessing it would be like the Ice cube on the hot plate. The pressure reaction of much cooler PG hitting the hot surface might actually rapidly condenses from the pressure difference of the also rapidly expanding VG and cause a heavier vapor filled with more LIQUID condensed nicotine/pg and a thick VG vapor than just vaporizing both liquids simultaneously.

Thrasher had it right.

Think of the chart as a guide for beginners. Any juice delivery delivery system will or should work with this chart. Because they can deliver enough juice to the coil to work in this range. Of course there are always some bad cartos that won't work.

When the coil delivers more power more juice is vaporized. Eventually as the power or watts go up the wick can't deliver juice fast enough to keep up with that amount that is vaporized. Up to this point the temperature of the coil stays at about the boiling point of the liquid. Think of boiling water in a paper cup as long as there is water in it the cup doesn't burn because the liquid is constantly cooling it. The same thing happens in the coil as long as it is saturated with juice by the wick.
if you have too much power the wick and coil will develop dry spots and the temperature goes up. Once that happens any residue usually called gunk starts to burn. Any liquid will still just evaporate.

So for higher power or more watts all we need is a way to deliver enough juice to the coil to keep it saturated with juice. That is basically what the sub ohm people are doing.
 
With a lot of the sub-ohm stuff you need to factor in that they're using more than one coil most of the time. Say you're using a dual coil set up that registers at 1 ohm resistance, this means that you're actually using two 2 ohm coils that are in parallel configuration, thus dropping effective resistance to 1 ohm but requiring twice the current to obtain the same wattage at a given voltage to fire to the same temperature as a single 1 ohm coil would. This additional surface area is what causes the "clouds" because there are two coils/wicks/vapor sources. A vaporizer is just a really simple electronic circuit (especially if you're using a mech mod), and once you understand a little bit about how these things work it will make your vaping experience much smoother.

E (VOLTS) = I (AMPS) * R (RESISTANCE)

P (WATTS) = I (AMPS) * E (VOLTS)
