It looks like the gulf coast's ecosystem will be destroyed for years..... Such a beautiful part of America will be filled with an alarming amount of oil which is still leaking. It's really sad.... :nah:

BP is taking their time and lied in their initial report about the size of the spill. It's currently 130 miles long by 30 miles wide......

Seems a shame that we haven't heard why, or if there was one, the shut off valve did not work properly. I wonder if there is an inspection report that shows a working or existing shut off valve?

The way I understand it, the platform WAS the shut off valve, and it went poof when the platform went.

It's not just the gulf that will be destroyed. According to reports on the growing size of the spill, and any efforts will take months at best to stop it, we're talking about the entire eastern seaboard of the United States will be ruined in a matter of weeks.

Honestly, there are some holes that should be left undug. We hit the jackpot with this one. Watch the price of seafood skyrocket and we'll be easily paying $7.00 or more per gallon of gasoline. But that scenario pales compared to the ecological disaster that is now in the making.

Actually the shutoff valve was a separate piece of hardware, to be used in scenarios like this. Oil rig blew up. Shutoff valve didn't work, and HAD no backup. Leaving us with a big mess

Think about this situation this way. We would NEVER send men and women into Orbit without backup systems. And NASA even designed a backup system to back up the backup systems if needed to advert a disaster.

The ....ing "drill baby drill" movements made "tree hugger" people such as myself look like a bunch of ......s, lampooned on the Simpsons many times, and they finally got their way. DRILL BABY DRILL!

Now, when what we SAID would happen, has happened, and the planet is literally ejaculation in our oceans. I just finished a video on my take on this matter that is currently in production. Should be ready soon.

Gulf oil spill: The Halliburton connection | Greenspace | Los Angeles Times

From what I have read this was actually one of the most modern platforms as well as having very well trained workers, the best that there are. The problem was with the sub-contractor Halliburton. There was also a second platform that was destroyed and there are rumors of possible eco-terrorism.

Coast Guard responds to inland oil rig accident - MarketWatch

No matter how it plays out it is one of, if not the worst evironmental disaster ever.
