Cartos are the next best thing compared to RBAs/RDAs IMO. They give a full, flavorful vape and accept a large range of power settings compared to clearos. They do need to be primed properly though. Failure to do that is the biggest reason people have issues with them.

I don't think that's fair to make a blanket statement about 'cartos'; I mean from the point of view of a carto could just mean a plain carto, but then you could talk about a carto tank system.

From the way it tastes, I think that's definately true - it's giving a pretty clean vape, just, it's giving a bit of harshness that's hard to explain in words. It's one of those situations where, as of vaping right this second, i gotta choose between using the carto tanks, and using a disposable clearomizer I sort of souped up to give me more of the vapor i like.... and i kinda just keep picking the clearo up, pretty much 10 times out of 10. really want to get some more practice with these carto tanks cuz, no doubt, they're clean! having a walk-around setup like this would really be a pleasure! i just gotta practice and perfect it

using tank system btw!

I remember a year ago when I had a real fear of cartomizers. I thought they muted juice.... But then I realized I was doing it wrong, especially after my local B&M showed me how to prime a carto using the drip and flick method. I messed up quite a few before I got it down, but I didn't give up. I haven't been more satisfied since.

first off, its been almost exactly 1 year since i had a cigarette and i've had absolutely no urge for one thanks to vaping. basically i get my nicotine fix and it's all good. and you have to consider i smoked for almost 30 years and loved it.

CONGRATS on this!!!! This is the biggest part of this statement. It really doesn't matter what you use, as long as it works for you. Glad you found the set up that keeps you vaping!!!

Harshness is interesting. When I vape with nicotine I get a much harsher experience than without it. Sometimes I like that and sometimes I don't and I chose my juice for the next hour (or so) accordingly. It all depends on how I feel at the time.

If you're getting what you need from the clearo, stick with it and keep the cartos for when you feel they would be good for you.

Either way it's the carto that makes the vape. Putting it in a tank just makes keeping the carto topped up a whole lot easier and more convenient :)

Prime? ohh! Glad I read this thread. I'm new. I have been using disposable clearos. I just received my first carto yesterday. Maybe that's what's wrong?? What do I need to do, if you don't mind sharing Rocketpunk?

Well, I'm not Rocketpunk, but he can add to this when he sees your post :2cool:

Baditude has some great blog posts on cartos and carto tanks. I think this will really help explain things: Baditude's Cartomizer Tank Setup Guide

A cartomizer is a long metal tube with polyfill inside. Depending on whether or not you got a cartomizer tank, your cartomizer may have flanges at the bottom connection end. Basically, what I do to prime a carto is hold it at an angle and drip drops into the polyfill, rotating the carto with each drop (like a gatling gun). I give each drop about a second or so to soak in. Then, I flick it REAL HARD like a thermometer (and this is where we get our first hiccup, as many users have no idea what a thermometer is or how to shake it). Finally, after so many drops and so many flicks, juice will come out of the little hole on the bottom of the carto (if it is factory-punched with a laser). At that point, the carto is primed. That's it. Sounds difficult, but I blame my description for it, and also it's easier to show than tell.

Also, reference Baditude's blogs. Wealth of info there.

I'm a lot like you, just simpler. A Kanger T3 tank on a Volt X2 and I'm good to go.

So I have four X2s, and 12 Kanger T3 tanks. The fact that the T3 looks to be discontinued annoys me, but barring tank breakage I can rebuild heads, no problem.

Well I thought I had my set up until I read they were discontinuing the Kanger T3s......noooooo! Dang.

I've noticed that when I don't properly prime my cartos, I get a horrible acrid vape. I had one where I just couldn't wait to try my new flavor, thought I primed the carto enough, and started to vape. At first I thought it was the juice, but it turned out to be the carto, seeing as how I put the juice into a Davide tank, and it was wonderful.

I've also noticed with the "new" Smok cartos, the ones that use Nichrome mesh instead of polyfill are really harsh. They work good as a dripper atty, but for a carto tank, not at all. One puff is good, next is ok, third is horrid. Wait twenty minutes. First puff is ok, the rest are horrid. Drip three or four drops, awesome for a couple of pulls, then need to redrip.

Well yeah; that's exactly why I commented; it is a blanket statement to say a carto gives a full flavorful vape; if the carto is in a tank, then the carto can be consistent; but just the plain carto has the reputation for gradually deminishing with use; plus the way you decide that it is done is when you decide it tastes bad enough.

"Polyfill":

Interesting thing happens when you try to look up the meaning of the word polyfill:

My clearos are gathering dust after trying carto tanks. For me, they provide a clean, flavorful, warm (not hot), moist and, most importantly CONSISTENT vape. That being said, the Smok cartos were my least favorite and I would recommend a Boge or Ikenvape carto before you give up on cartotanks. Just my .02.
