..I've noticed that I've been coughing up more blackened smoker's phlegm lately. Is it my body just finally getting rid of the tar and crap from smoking? or does vaping also create some darkening of lung phlegm? Been cigarette free since the beginning of May..

That's listed as one of the most common things to happen to somebody who quit smoking. The cilia in the lungs start to come back to life and start cleaning the lungs again. The way they did before you smoked.

It's actually a good thing. It actually bothers me I'm not coughing up crud. That sounds silly maybe but there's gotta be a lot of crap in my lungs that could use being cleaned out some...

Oh, here's something about it:

Smoking deadens the cilia in the lungs. These are little hairlike cells that help brush out dust and other residues in normal, healthy lungs. One of the reasons smokers have more infections is that their cilia are not working, so foreign matter accumulates in their lungs. When you quit, the cilia get back to work within a couple of days. The result: you start coughing up more phlegm and sputum. Sometimes, ex-smokers get scared by this and think they have a new problem. But it's not that at all, just another example of your body getting back to normal.

I've been vaping for, lets call it, over two months (I don't track dates that well). The first week, I was congested like crazy, but I have yet to go through the "clearing of the lungs."

As gross as it probably is, I was hoping to be able to have a physical experience so that I knew my body was cleaning itself up.

Edit: I will add this, I no longer have a smoker's cough. I don't cough in the morning and I don't notice any coughing throughout the day. So, that's a good thing. But wonder why I have yet to clear out the junk?

Also switched to vaping just 2 months ago, chronic bronchitis cleared up in 3 days, but no serious purging of the lungs that I noticed. After 46 years of 1 to 2 pack a day smoking. I actually expected more physical reaction, but vaping has successfully supressed all nicotine cravings.

I coughed up gunk daily all the years that I smoked, so maybe there was little or nothing to purge ? Or I have yet to deal with this ...

I would bet that you still have the opportunity to go through this. It does take some time for the cilia to start working full force again and everyone is different. My chronic bronchitis cleared up pretty quickly as well but I went through the purge about 5 months into vaping. I also wonder if menthol flavors will slow the onset of the "tar purge". Those juices seem to have somewhat of a numbing effect IMO. Not anything that I can back up, just an observation.
