Okay to use regular cotton?

The picture looks very close to some "natural" cotton that I have. Check the labeling on the package. Like it's been said, make sure it doesn't have bleach, etc.
I've used plain cotton balls, boiled rinsed and boiled again. Now no promise that it removes any possible chemicals. I will say I prefer bacon and/or muji pads and the like over cotton balls.
I may skimp on a lot of things in life but learned to never do that with wick or liquid.

Usually regular cotton balls are bleached, some use hydrogen peroxide too. I would read the package first.
I use plain old Walmart cotton balls...... try samples of most of the other cottons and rayon..... never find them better enough or easier enough to actually buy cotton for vaping.... wife has a bag of the stuff... grab a handful every 6 months or so boil it dry it stick it in a sandwich bag.
Can't beat free.

Why anyone would take a chance with regular cotton balls when Organic Cotton is easily available, relatively cheap and a bag lasts forever ..

I am always amazed at people who will buy gear regularly quibble about buying a bag of cotton pads once a year for under 15.00.
$12 for 60 large pads of Koh gen Do. It's very inexpensive, organic, very easy to wick, no boiling, no fuss and no muss.
Stepped away from "boutique cotton" years ago, I picked up the 3lb box of Rayon and that's a lifetime supply for quite a few vapers.
If you are stuck for a source of Rayon or even want to try it. Then Kotex U Sleek tampons (available everywhere) have an medical grade, top quality Rayon core.
You just have to skin and gut them.

I've gone back to cotton except for the alien builds. Rayon does do better in those for some reason, guessing my wattage is probably too low.
I can't imagine bleached cotton is GOOD exactly I also can't imagine boiling it would do much.
If it's laziness and whatnot, IDK if one wick of bleached cotton would kill you, but it's also not the best idea, and ALSO, well .I'd say that if you are super lazy amazon will ship you unbleached cotton or rayon and they deliver to your door, etc.

I used Rayon in my Kayfuns and Taifuns a few years back, worked perfectly for 15W builds.
I do use cotton on the odd occasion in an RDA that has a very tiny juice well like the B2K, cotton will give you quite a few good puffs before you have to resquonk. In anything with a substantial juice source, it's Rayon all the way.
COTN threads and KGD is just so fast and easy and I'm just lazy when it comes to wicking. I still don't know how I ended up with so many rtas in rotation.
I always vape at very low watts/volts (< than 7W) and use rayon in everything I wick. As long as I prime it well and pulse it several times while blowing on it, before I attach the deck to the rest of the tank...it tastes and does fine, for me anyway.
Years ago before ... cotton or rayon was around, used cvs sterile cotton and it worked really good .....never liked the idea of boiling cotton, to me it seems even more dangerous.
