Well, maybe some who stop smoking cigarettes no longer can stand the smell, but it is beyond credibility that one would be unable to breathe when confronted with 3rd hand smoke by a guy in a friggin' grocery store. Either the poster needs a doctor to diagnose her breathing problems or she is LYING.

I know exactly what you felt.
Happened to me too a few days ago.
Now that my olfactory has returned to normal, the pungent overpowering smell of real smoke is awful, and can trigger a feeling of not being able to breathe.
I did something really stupid, i went into an airport smoking lounge and vaped.
I nearly collapsed the smell was so bad.
It felt as if i had a sudden asthma attack...
First of all, I don't have enough imagination to exaggerate. Second of all, you don't know me well enuff to suggest it.
Could it be that whatever he was smoking cause some sort of allergic reaction? As I said, it smelled somewhat like the flue cured and I haven't smelled anything like that in my smoking years. Maybe cigars?
Since I did not see him coming, it would be hard to 'make it up'. Further I am anything BUT an anti smoking. I suggest you get a life and don't exaggerate into what you read.
BTB.. someone might say the same thing about me vaping, but more likely it would be something else, like my perfume.

LOL ok so I am not nuts. My doctor suggested some time ago that I might have a small allergy to smoke since my nose seemed to close up completely when I smoked... Maybe so.

I used to like the smell of tobacco before quitting analogs. I dont like the smell anymore now, but it doesnt cause me to have trouble breathing, maybe ill gag a little though. I only dislike it because it reminds me of how bad my health was 66 days or so ago, waking up in the morning heavy with tarry lung feeling. It gets to the point after quitting analogs that I can now smell smoke from someone smoking in the car in front of me with my windows down and my a/c on and not long ago I thought claims people can do that are bs, but I will not complain in the least about the smell. No exaggeration whatsoever which is the only reason I posted it. Make sense? I have smelled smoke on my regular outings, this was different (which BTW was WHY I posted it). Wow some people don't seem to think through something before posting do they? Maybe I should just come in and say... "Wow I smelled smoke today!!!" Opps did that when I first started noticing it.
As hard I try I can see no benefit of exaggerating anything on this board. Now because my reaction was odd or unheard of in someone else's experience, it cannot possibly be true..... lol reminds me of trying to reason with my 15 year old.
BTW I STILL enjoy the smell of analogs (think I said that), but there was something different about this encounter.

DaBrat you do not need to justify your experience to someone who obviously is in an unhappy state, as just about every post of theirs is ugly in one sort or another. I usually pity people like this because they must lead very miserable lives being so negative all the time.
In 1979 I started smoking .... logs because, on a 58' boat with 5 chain smokers, the only way I could survive was to smoke. I missed a close relative's funeral as a child because I could not be in a car filled with smoke for the 6 hour drive.
5 years ago I switched to Am Spirit natural rolling tobacco. Many commented that the smell was not so offensive or overwheming as the 'usual' pre-rolled ciggies.
Now - after 9 weeks of vaping - I can choke down a few puffs IF I roll one out of the Am Spirit tobacco.
AND WHEN - yes, this has happened to me, I am around people smoking store bought/reg brand .... logs I absolutely have to stand 'upwind'. A trip into a casino smoking environment was a definate wake-up call.
So - I believe the OP about her physical reaction. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought there would be a day when I'd have the same reaction to .... logs as before I smoked.
They really do put poison in those things!

Thats weird cause even AS a smoker I had difficulty being n a smoke-filled room. Even visiting family, I would have to go outside when everyone lit up.
Ok Tori, it would be fair that you posted which forum member that you are referring to. Making assumptions about somebodies life is pretty low, and btw I dont care if you were referring to me or not but your post came right after my own. Some people called DaBrat a liar and an impersonater and an uncredible person, which I do not agree with those accusations at all. Maybe I misread the thread or whatever, but its fair to whoever triggered your post that you clarify which one it was. Thank you in advance.
Vaping I think Tori meant In General. Not sure why it is important that she point to one member or another. As I see from other posts it is NOT that unusual. Hopefully these forum members will not be attacked as well.
While I don't have a violent reaction like yours, I have to hold my breath when walking by someone who is smoking and stay out of it if I'm with someone who is smoking. Before I started analogs I didn't have a problem at all, but toward the end when I had to quit cold turkey, I developed a sensitivity. I think it might have to do with screwing up my lungs from analogs; I also am very short of breath with any physical activity.
Wow! Since this is a change from your previous reactions and the severity caught you by surprise...I would suggest careful consideration of all possible triggers. Have you noticed any other symptoms? When was your last check up? There may be something else underlying this reaction. I truly hope not, but this scenario is worrisome. I have heard that one can develop an allergic reaction over time but rarely this extreme. Keep an eye on this and let us know how your doing. Best wishes!
Yanno, I've said this before and I'll say it again... When our olfactory organ was being de-sensitized by the smoking we were doing--none of us could smell cigarette smoke as well as a non-smoker. I smoked for almost 30 years and while I couldn't smell cigarettes say in a smoking area mainly because I was smoking myself and because of cigarette smoke overload--I couldn't stand being in a closed space with anyone or even myself in the car if they/I were smoking.
I have noticed that when I smell cigarettes I seem to be able to tell the "good" cigarettes from the "cheapie" cigarettes! I know, I know...your thinking--What??? Maybe it's just my preference but when I'm around some people that smokes--the smell of say Marlboro doesn't "bother" me too much. If I'm around someone that smokes Basic...ewwooo. I know this sound nuts but it's true. The cheapie ones almost make me ill. That INCLUDES if it's on someones shirt or smoke in the air. It's nasty.
I do not however, make a scene like some non-smokers or former smokers do. I keep my mouth shut and move on. I find it odd that anyone would finger another on this forum and almost accuse them of lying just because they had the reaction they did and then posted it on this forum. That to me is more odd than the OP that was almost physically ill. hummm?????

Lol had the reactions to my OP been any thing other than attack I probably would have thought of the fact that I also have a condition with a hyperactive immune system. I have never been allergic to pollen either but this spring I spent three months not being able to breathe and hacking up a lung due to the pollen in my area. That's a lot of years without that particular allergy.
Maybe since I have not been around it, my new and improved immune systen (NOT) almost killed me....lol. Takes me by surprise since I have been polluting myself with it for 28 years.

Point taken. It couldve been at all of the criticizers, and I didnt mean to criticize DaBrat in the least for the smoke issue even if it came off as criticizm. I didnt look at other posts by Tori but an accusation of someone being miserable in life because of their posts seemed to be focused on a single poster here and came off as kind calous, angry, and as being an attack on whoever it is. Since drama aint my thing, I drop the issue now and live and let live.
