Hi Y'all...

I've been smoking since I was 17, I'm now 38 going on 39, and I smoke around 2-3 packs a day; sometimes more, sometimes less. I'm a full-time college student, I'm unemployed, and living with my boyfriend who was hit pretty hard with layoffs and a string of crappy jobs. A couple of years ago my boyfriend and I bought those Smoke 51's; I hated them. The juice that came with them made me ill, my atty kept drying out, the filler kept drying out and sticking to the atty, and the throat hit was non-existent. Immediately after nixing the Smoke 51's, I tried the Vapor Kings by Vapor 4 Life... The battery life sucked, had little success with refilling cartos to save money, and their e-juice made me sick. My boyfriend, the smug ....... that he is, had no problem with either setup; so I made him refill a gazillion cartos for me before he left for work, and we bought some more batteries because the V4L batteries didn't have much life. Even with several batteries, we were still having to smoke because the batteries didn't last long; we were smoking 3-4 packs then, and I was vaping almost constantly. He nixed the e-cigs altogether, and it was just too easy for me to go back to smoking. About the time we decided to give it another go, he was laid off, and we didn't have the funds to experiment with different setups that would work for me.

A year ago, I decided to get a 510 adapter for my kr808 batteries, a drip tip, and atomizers. This setup worked pretty well for me, except for the fact that the high vg content of the e-juice I was using kept gunking up the attys, and the batteries started dying on me. Shortly after that, my boyfriend was laid off, and we didn't put in that order for 510 batteries and attys that I was going to send for.

Now my boyfriend has a pretty steady job, and a recent job opportunity in a non-smoking environment made me realize that many companies are going non-smoking and that employers in "at-will employment" states are not afraid to fire people for smoking while they are away on their lunch breaks (in at-will states, they don't have to give you a reason at all); so we want to give it another go. My boyfriend thinks the Smoke 51's are great, and he has stubbornly refused to give the less expensive, and better quality, 510's a go (goody on him :p). However, I don't have to go with the Smoke 51's :)and I'm thinking of going with a Riva-T because the starter kits are economical, they have good battery life, I can use LR attys on them for vapor, they give decent throat hit according to reviews, and I don't have to worry about burning that filler material found in cartos. My main concern is how well my attys are going to hold up to 60vg/40pg ratio or at least a 50/50 ratio because I get sick from anything over 50% pg, and I'm unwilling to give up the RY4 I loved from Freedom Smokes USA.

I will state this for the record... I am not mechanically inclined; meaning that I can easily screw up assembling one of those bookshelves you get from Wal-Mart, so the Ego-C is probably not the best choice for me, and it's a bit more expensive than the Riva-T. At this point, I am not going for the Twist because I won't change the voltage, and it's a bit more expensive than the Riva-T. I am willing to buy vodka to clean my attys, but I doubt I will be getting a jewelry cleaner or some such machine to clean my attys anytime soon. That being said, do y'all think that the Riva-T will meet my needs, while allowing me to "expand" to greater and better things in the future if I so desire?

The riva would be fine...but if you get the ego twist, it will make you wonder less.

Id spend the higher initial cost because chances are, youll want to mess with voltages to get that sweet spot.
Also, i dont think the rivas have the 5 click on and off...this can be an issue if youre putting it in your purse.

You dont have to be too mechanically inclined. its just 2 pieces and selecting the voltage you want.
The ego twist makes variable voltage very simple.

Good luck!

Where you least expect it....
It's great to hear that your giving e-cigs another go. I also had a smoke51 and my experience with it wasn't good at all. The Riva has gotten a lot of rave reviews. So, you should be pretty happy with it.

I would suggest that you also get a few LR (low resistance/1.7-2 ohms) cartomizers as well. Just to give them a try since they may help you transition to e-cigs a bit more easily.

hi, good to see someone else from my neck of the woods. You might also want to check out the vivi nova mini. While I have not used the mini, I do use the full sized and have had no issues with it wicking my 30/70 pg/vg, tho I have not tried it with 100% vg. Also once you get your 5 posts in, we do have a MO subforum here, and we even have monthly meets in Lebanon.

Hi and welcome to another MO member!! I'm so glad to hear you are trying vaping again....I can't give advice on attys because I've never really used them...I can, however share this thread with you where you can get 50% off everything at their store (24 hour only sale - I think it goes till about 6pm CST)

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...sale-24-hours-only-vv-included-win-100-a.html

For better battery life you could possibly try one of those Amp XL's - get the 1200mAh...and maybe one of the clearomizer tanks - you can't really beat the price at 50% off...

My only other advice for you is to maybe start out with a little higher nic level than you tried last time...many people vape higher nic in the morning and lower before bedtime.

Anyway - hope this helps - best of luck to you!!! :)

I hear ya, but yeesh... that price is killing me. I have to start out all over again since I've only got batts and a charger for my 808, and I have to buy e-juice; not to mention the fact that my boyfriend is gonna need to get his own crappy Smoke 51  I still haven't convinced him to go with a smaller 510. We won't even begin to discuss that crappy e-juice he likes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Riva and Ego compatible? I could, theoretically, use what we've saved from not buying cigarettes to spring for a twist battery to replace my Riva battery; especially considering that the price of the twist will eventually drop. :) Thanks for your advice, because it's solid... I just don't want to wait a couple more months to save up the money to get started.

Cool... Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it, and I'll add some cartos to my order. Unfortunately, I may have to wait a couple more weeks before putting in an order, since we had to buy a vehicle and we're saving up to license and pay taxes on it. :( I'm actually bummed about it.

Sweet! I'll have to see how many posts I've done... Maybe I should've responded to y'all individually.. lol I've been looking at it, and it looks like you attach the setup to an Ego or Riva batt, correct? I'll be stopping by the MO subforum soon to bend your ear, or eyes.

Thanks for the tip about the flash sale. Wish I could participate because it'd be sweet to get that setup for about the same price as a Riva-T! I plan on getting 30mg, which is the max nic amount I can get from my favorite e-juice supplier and then getting a lower level (not too sure how low to go) in the same flavors so I can adust the amount. Thanks for the advice!
