Please note that the Texas Open Carry law (as it is currently being voted upon) you still have to have your CHL to do so, only those with the permit, not everyone. The Castle Law ( Penal Code section 46.) does allow you to carry a firearm inside your car... Anyhow that's not what I wanted to bring up.Same here in Texas, although the law allows you to carry a gun in your car "while traveling" without a CCL, and the new open-carry law is about to be signed by the governor. Still, if you're pulled over you're required to inform the officer immediately that you have a gun in the car.
I live within 100 yards of school property (ie no drugs or persons with any crimes against youth allowed)... Anyhow I was outside my house watching my kids play in the front yard with their friends when a lady walking her dog comes by and starts screaming at me about how I am going to go to jail using drugs near a school and in front of my kids. At the time I was being non-confrontational and decided it was a good time to feed the rugrats and shrugged at the lady and ushered my kids into my house. Almost 20 minutes later my eldest child (8 years) answered the door and said that a "hero" was at the door. (Ive trained my kids to respect police, firemen and servicemen.) I went to the door to find a uniformed police officer standing there smiling from what my kiddo said. Come to find out the lady had filed a report that I was "smoking {OTHER STUFF}" out front and wanted me arrested. I informed him that I was out front and vaping on my property. I told him I had footage (yes I have a camera in the front and rear of my house) to prove it was not drugs. He thanked me and when he started walking away, he came back and asked "So, do you want to press for Filing a False Report?"
I did have him discuss it with the lady and supposedly she was very vocal about her "rights"... Le sigh...
