If you want to roll the proverbial dice then get something other than a Provari. If you can afford a Provari then I would suggest getting one now. I did a lot of research and found that the Provari's reliability and support are first rate. The only other mod which seemed to be close in terms of reliability was the Tesla. I didn't have the money for a Provari at the time so I bought the Tesla, but I knew I was still rolling the dice.
I really like my Tesla, but a Provari came up for sale on the classifieds at a really good price and I bought it today. I don't regret it one bit. I don't even have it yet, but I know it's reputation. I really don't think you'll be disappointed if you by a Provari, used or new. Good luck with whatever you get though. Ultimately you're the one that has to be happy.
