"ecig explodes" lady left her ego type plugged in to her computer unattended and it exploded and burned the wall a little a hole in the carpet and fried her computer. She had a no name ego with a no name charger. A guy from okc vapes (its a store in town not sure if its the same on thet sells stuff online) was on camera and explained what she did and not to buy from gas stations go to a reputable shope to show u how to vape safely. So that was nice to see and hear. I hope people learn from this story..

It's user error. Never charge your ecig on the computer -- use a wall adapter. Never charge unattended.

But the ecig gets blamed

Really!? I thought it was ok to charge on the PC, I thought I read that somewhere, I have yet done so, But was going to, But so far only used my Wall Adapter. I need see if I can use my car adapter

I am charging a cheap ego battery on my computer right now.

At least it's attended.

So you can watch if it fries your USB interface... When are we going to have a toaster oven powered off a USB port?

Seriously, I don't get this idea that a computer is supposed to be used as a charging dock for anything that can be thrown at it. Computer USB for powering oh... computer type things designed to oh... utilize a computer? Yes. Anything else? Ends up away from the computer port and on a wall wart USB adapter.

To put in another way: You can get 1000 mA USB wall type power adapters on Amazon for $1.99. And if something happens to that you are out two bucks. Then again - how much did you pay for the computer and how much will it cost to repair or replace that if you zotz the USB interface?

Give it up for the NEVER charge on a PC crowd:facepalm:

While I agree with never charge unattended. I know for a fact a proper charger works fine on USB 2.0 and above devices. Just don't press the Battery button while charging!

It's really not worth the risk to plug anything into a USB port on your computer that isn't designed to interface with the computer. Most devices (including smart phones and iPods) don't draw anywhere near the 500mA available from a USB 2.0 port, but some e-cig battery chargers may push it to the limit. If you must use your PC as a charging station, I would recommend an external USB hub (self powered) instead of plugging directly into the computer USB port.

These instances might be rare, but again, why take the risk.

Actually she did not have it plugged into a computer. She had it plugged into the wall outlet. The news did a horrible job on reporting about it, IMO. It was the typical BS hype and a little truth comes out somewhere at the end.

The lady claims she purchased the battery from an unknown vendor (they never mentioned the vendors name in the story) she says they told her any charger would work to charger the battery. Hmmmm. The reporter (if you want to call her that) interviewed a local well know vendor that explained how this can happen. The vendor said two MAIN reasons this can happen is leaving the battery in a hot car and USING THE WRONG CHARGER. The chick said when I purchased the battery they said any charger would work. Ugh it makes me so mad when news channels only run stories for ratings. I sent the station a message and asked them why they would run a story about some dumb@@@ almost catching her house on fire because SHE used the wrong charger for a battery? I also asked why they did not interview the unnamed vendor that she says gave her terrible advice. This whole story has BS all over it. Why would you interview a vendor that had nothing to do with the supposed advice that any charger would work? No instead let's make this about ratings and accuse the e-cig industry with zero facts or evidence to back it up. Sorry for the long winded rant but this kind of reporting is ridiculous. The lady used the wrong charger, and somehow gets on a local new station and blames someone else…....and they run with it!!

To each his own. The way I look at it I didn't buy a $699.00 battery charger with a free bonus laptop computer included.
