Folks: maybe we, collectively, have more information than we think.
Consider:
1) A lot of these battery issues are either malfunctions of the charger or
2) the battery is old, not holding a charge anymore, and gets continual-charged because it never sustains cut-off voltage.
#2 is a prime suspect, but #1 is also.
I suspect the chargers need more "smarts" to detect a battery that is too old to be charged.
Charge in a safe place. That's the first rule. I'm not even going to get into the overnight thing...really "long term unattended" thing...because I know people will do it anyway. But if it blows up/catches fire....you don't want it on a couch or stack of papers. I think the charging bags are a good idea too.
Maybe your battery shouldn't be swinging from the charging cord in the car while you're driving. Maybe it shouldn't be on the couch. Or sitting on a stack of papers.
The lack of documentation and instructions is a disgrace. People don't know any better.
And there have been laptop fires and cell phone fires due to charging. This battery stuff is inherently dangerous...but caution is the name of the game.
