I have a Kanger Evod, the basic model & just heard from someone that after putting in a new coil, you should dry draw 5 times before using the battery button. Is this true and why? I know someone here with way more experience will be able to give me a honest answer. As always, thanks in advance for your help and advice.

I've found that I often have to prime the coil even after just letting the box mod lay on it's side for a few hours. It's just a habit that you get in to...taking three or four deep inhales before you vape, so that you don't get that "burnt offering." :evil:

But we're nearing Halloween so I foresee many more burnt offerings than usual!!!

It's to help make sure the wick gets wet enough to vape with;
you don't want to vape a dry coil;

if you put in a fresh coil and just leave it sitting for an hour in a tank you won't need to do that, but if you want to put in a fresh coil and start using it immediately, then you need to get that wick wet.

Some of this depends on the wicking material. Cotton will burn if dry. Once burnt, it's trash. Silica does not burn, but you can still get a bad taste. However, silica will not keep that burnt taste.

IMO cotton tastes and wicks better, but silica is more resilient.

My experience is that 10-15 minutes is fine to let either type of wick prime. But unpowered draws never hurt. Even after a wick is primed, it can still get a little dry if you are doing some hard chain vaping. That is the time for some quick unpowered draws to wet the wick again. I do it all the time.
