My favorite MTL tank these days are my OBS Engine Nano's. They can be used for direct lung also and don't leak at all.
After reading your post I watched a Rip Trippers review on the OBS Engine Nano...I liked the velocity style deck and how the cotton wicks go down into the holes..
Side fill was interesting as well as the top airflow design.. I'll Google it for a USA vendor for price and availability..thx for your post :)

I had a look at the Von Erl pods but i dont like the fact that:
1) inbuilt battery with too small mah.
2) have to stay with the company. The pod bits which take the juice dont last forever do they?

I love the look of the Kabuki, Its a beautiful piece. I wish they had made an rta version. I've seen the little add on but its too small. I bought one for the nautilus a while back. No good. :(
My dad loves the von erl.I refilled a pod for him today, it's very easy (you just remove the base with something like a plier to flick it out, then fill on the sides and snap the base back on). Works perfectly.
The pods are indeed disposable, but the bases are all compatible.. You can keep as many of the tiny bases with coil attached as you like.. as one dies, snap on the next.

Indeed. However, you would be supporting the local American man and your country in regards to labour and economics by buying home made authentics.
Yes, sure. And Americans should close Walmarts and stop buying phones from tax-evading, jobs shipping Apple of Jobs.

wow that's the most expensive tank I've seen. 123 euros?
FWIW, the first page says they are no longer available, but the manufacturer does indeed have them in stock ready to ship, for anyone who is game.
Also, is the erlkoenigin just for rebuilders, or are their pre built RTV coils available for them?
Love the erlkonigin and erlprinz and never heard of prebuilts for them, AFAIK it's a 100 percent rebuildable .

I'd need to learn how to approximate resistance if i even wanted to start. I just watched Pete review the digiflavor siren and the 25mm impressed me. Would look great on a nice 25mm flush mod like the Alien.
It's very cheap so if I ever decide to get into building, i suppose that would be where i would start, inexpensively. I'd also probably start with premade coil wire that are ready to be inserted into the deck and already have resistances I can choose from.
Wow, i never even thought i'd ever leave pre filled cig a likes, then I went to fillable ones and was sure that was it, and now it always seems the curiosity gets the better of me, then tanks, then sub ohm tanks, etc..but I just don't think I have it in me to do what you guys do. A shame, cause there seems to be some amazing RBA tanks out there. Next i'll probably convince myself to try dripping too LOL!

Steam Engine | free vaping calculators to help approximate a build, and then either a regulated mod or a meter to check it yourself before use. Same goes for premade coil wire as the resistance is sometimes not what you expected. Always double check your resistance to avoid unfortunate events.

Yes I do have a mini 521 to check resistances.. all good there.. i use it before i fill up a tank to make sure the coil isn't a DOA (some tanks drain all liquid without coil, for example, so to avoid waste).
Cheers

^ same here, I just put 'steam coil builder' into google and then the site has a little table to select the guage (thickness) of wire you have bought.
A heads up is you want higher gauge/ higher number for higher resistance. And lower gauge/lower number (which is thicker wire) for low resistance.

It has a table for the resistance you desire.
And a table for the diameter of the thing you are using to wrap around. Whether it be a drill bit or screwdriver etc...

Mine is 1.2 resistance and 28 guage kanthal a1 wire and a 1.7 or 2.5 screwdriver
It then tells me how many times I should wrap the wire.

Give it a go it's really easy to get to grips with.
I started off on a kanger subtank so if I couldn't do it I could replace the rba deck with standard prebuilt coils.
Never needed it and never looked back.

Good luck

Having a 521 is a nice luxury for building as it not only measures resistance but also serves as a good build surface to hold the tank base, and can be used to dry burn your coil.

Agreed. I keep buying those eleaf readers and then wishing I bought the 521. :(

The one thing I wondered is how does the battery work when pulsing builds that require 18650s?
Is there a compartment for big batteries in there?

It holds a single 18650, more than enough to pulse a coil. They don't need to glow white hot when building or cleaning. I don't even remember the last time I recharged the battery in it (you have to charge externally, no usb on it).

Edit: oops should have looked first, there is a usb port on it, I guess for charging. Goes to show you how often I worry about the battery in that.

Those 521 tabs are good for sure but don't you check the resistance once it's already installed on a tank deck? I don't own that particular one but have a similar one. So yes it's good but imo no different to a regulated mod. When I first started to rebuild I bought a plain multimeter which checks the actual coil before you install it on a tank. I kind of liked it because if it was a bit to high, you could easily reduce a wrap or go the other way and add a wrap. So just an other option if you decide to do coils. They are very simple tbh and very inexpensive

excellent thanks. I find my MTL resistances I like are not more than 1.5, and 1 and 1.2 are very welcome. So that's what I'd be trying to build to begin with.
Geez with pre built coils I always know my wattages, but this would be a whole new ballgame.
With the siren, it seems to wick well and I'm hoping i could get a 20 watt 1.0 ohm vape out of it.. would that be unrealistic? I have a serious addiction to throat hit, i would pick a throat hit over every other aspect of vaping.

I have shaky hands, i'm only in early 40's but there's definitely some sort of issue there, this is why i am concerned i'd get very frustrated. But i am really inspired now to give it a go! Why not! Lots of places out of stock of the siren, so i'll keep searching. I trust Pete's review and watched all 50 minutes of it, so i'm kind of dead set on that being my first RBA tank.

I do have a subtank plus, as the 1.2 ssocc provide a terrific MTL and are often overlooked, plus it gives me 7 mils of MTL when out, hence, an entire day out with a charged 3500 mah mod at 17 watts equals 24 hr vaping for me. :) I have to find the box, i think there might be an RBA in there and i have something to start with and didn't even realise? lol.

will definitely be studying the steam coil builder. Cheers!

i screw in the tank with the coil before I build it. It's no more accurate than my mvp pro but i have misfired that before and totally burnt the cotton of a coil. You see for example with the innokin MTL tanks and the original isub, if you remove the coil it drains all the juice, so i test it before the first ever fill. Just screw on the empty tank to the resistance checker, in resistance read mode. Easy. You'd be surprised how many DOA coils one can get when you buy 10, sometimes 2 out of 10, so imagine if you've just filled the tank with 4mls, and it's a dead coil, there goes perfectly good juice! At least when a coil is on it's way out, you have advance warning, the taste at first starts muting, then it will eventually taste burnt. So once i notice a muted taste, i vape whatever is left in the tank, then toss the pre built coil, put in a new one, test it on the ohm reader, then fill. Rinse cycle repeat. I've saved a ton of juice doing it this way. With bottom fill kanger and aspire tanks it doesn't matter, cause you just flip the tank upside down and remove the base and can change the coil even with a full tank. But even so, i still test the coils first on an assembled empty tank, cause why waste the priming juice? LOL

Understood . . What I'm saying is if you decide to make your coils a multimeter can check the resistance of just the coil, it attaches with alligator clips so you don't have to attach the new coil to the tank to check it. It's good to do both but to be able to check just the coil itself gives you an option of redoing said coil before screwing it into the tank first

not 100% sure what you are asking, but it takes a single 18650. I decided to put a good one in there, just for the fact of why not, when one day i might be using the fire mode at low ohms. So i use a vtc5a in there, which is my favourite 18650 battery (the absolute best compromise for capacity vs discharge current, imo).

i would guess it works like a mechanical mod when firing, wouldn't it? please correct me if wrong.

The mini one is not really a luxury, it's 20 bucks, and if you don't need the big one with all it's fancy extra features, i recommend it. Note, it only reads down to 0.1 which is an advantage of the big brother, if you intend to go into the point oo category of coils. But it has a spring loaded pin, which means it's so much better than those not much cheaper non spring loaded coil resistance testers (which don't have a fire mode in most cases either).

I put the mini 521 in essential category, even for non builders.
Personally, it's the only checker i will ever need.

If you need to check voltages and go lower than 0.1, the expensive big 521 is the answer.

Great stuff. I've got a few minis but it's the same deal they do have an rba deck in the box.
Possibly some wire and cotton as well!!!
I can't remember so don't quote me on that.

It's a bit tricky because you don't know the gauge anyway.
Get it out man!

I took this screenshot for you. So I have set it to 28 guage wire (which I suggest as your first wire) high enough for mtl but thick enough to use.
Then I input the inner diameter of the coil.
Then I put the desired resistance as 1.5
You can also choose whether it's single (which it is) up to 8 coils I think
IMG_0334.PNG

So basically it tells you to wrap it 8 times.

But if you got shaky hands you can look on eBay or whatever and get those little coil jigs to do it for you.
Have a look on YouTube at some reviews of 'coil jigs'.

Best of luck. Send a photo when you've done it.

Buy some kanthal and organic cotton when you have time and a little bit of spare cash ;)

Remember the higher in wire gauge the thinner and harder to work with.

You don't want too low gauge though for mtl. It will be really slow to heat up and you'll need too many wraps to fit!
