Like many I ordered a cpl big bottles of nic juice to get me by in case of the VAPEocalypse....Are the 4-8 oz glass amber bottles that are commonly sold by the diy vendors sufficient for freezer storage?? this may be a dumb question but better safe then sorry. i know to double ziplock them but want to use proper storage containers....any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The Key is to allow for just enough space for some expansion and contraction to take place. Yes, those bottles will do. However you only want to pull from the freezer what you'll be using for the next few months or so, not much more. Therefore bottling smaller is better. 8 oz. is a bit too much, 4 oz and less is perfect.

ZIPlock potentially allows for too much air to circulate ... the chambering it's not tight enough for long-term freezer storage. Secondly, zip-locking itself is not all that airtight either, it's fallible.

I use 2 - 4 oz. bottles and fill them to 1/4" of the top. Amber or Boston blue glass is good.

Use industrial-grade polypropelyne caps and quad poly-wrap tightly with elastic bands. Shrink wrap does not keep out oxygen, it's to prevent shoppers from opening stuff up.

Smaller bottles are actually better (1oz) as they reduce the amount of oxygen the nicotine will ever get exposed to.

But any glass amber round of smaller size will work fine.
i have 3 liters total....1 to use directly and 2 to store....i ordered 6 4 oz amber rounds and 2 8 oz.....but if i need to i will get some 1 oz bottles but i would need a buttload of em.

I'd say if you'll store for much longer than 18 months, then I'd do the whole 10 yard protocol.

Many people here have been shrink-wrapping their nic bottles thinking it's that additional safety valve. It's not, it's entirely a retail issue.

If you are packing away 2 liters, I'd go with 4 oz. bottles since there are 3 mouths to feed. A liter of 100 nic-base can take years to vape up depending on the nic intake, so you might want to freeze 3/4 of that 3rd bottle too.

Cheers ...

i was thinking that too...itll take a long time to burn through 150 30 ml bottles...again thanks for the walkthrough....im ordrering more glass tomorrow[payday]
9 - 4 oz. bottles per Liter.

Running at 24mg nicotine, if you made 500ml of DIY juice to do 3 people for 4 weeks, that'll take 1 - 4 oz. bottle of 100-nic base. For a single person I find 2 oz. bottling more convenient. Once taken out of the freezer and broken open, I store it in the fridge.

as far as ziplocking them up i was thinking that would be a safety net in case of a cracked or leaking bottle situation...
Personally I don't trust the ZIP-locking mechanism for years in a freezer. Secondly it can't keep enough air away from the nic-base should a cap fail. 4-ply poly-wrap with elastic bands is about as air-tight as it gets, costs next to nothing and doesn't take much time.

I store nic base in amber boston round bottles and store them in the freezer. I also use and recommend Poly-Seal caps on the bottles.

I expose my 25 mg VG base to oxygen and moisture from the atmosphere while diluting, mixing and bottling. So, I only store a maximum of an 18 month supply of base in the freezer. I figure that I'll go through a liter of the base in just over a year. YMMV. From what I've read here on ECF that frozen base should be good for longer than 18 months in the freezer but I prefer a more conservative storage figure.

Just to let anyone who is worried about their high strength nic know, I just recently finished off a 500ml bottle of 60mg PG, from MFS, that I received in April of 2010. I had it in my crisper drawer, in the original amber glass bottle, inside a locked black bag. Tastes and "works" just as it did when I 1st got it.

I now have the same drawer full of 120ml glass amber(50/50-1L) and blue(PG-1L) bottles, and 1 more liter(PG) in my freezer, hoping for the same results. With all the improvements in the last few years, I think the extraction process has to have improved also.

That's good. I have 15 years of stock and would like to see it go the distance.
