AURORA, Colo. - A man suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday morning when he jumped out of his vehicle to avoid being burnt by a lit cigarette he had dropped down the front of his jacket.

The incident occurred in Aurora, Colorado at 6:37 a.m. while the vehicle was backing out of the driveway.


As the driver jumped out after the cigarette fell, his van kept rolling backwards and he was knocked to the ground. The front driver's side tire rolled over his head.
He was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition, though police say he will likely survive.


A relative was in the front passenger seat during the crash and he was not hurt. Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash, and police do not anticipate the filing of any charges. They remind drivers of the dangers of distractions and encourage them to limit distractions whenever possible.

I see a Darwin award runner here... How in the world do you panic so bad about a little potential cigarette burn that you throw yourself out of a rolling vehicle car in reverse when you can just stretch your jacket while putting the vehicle on park and then lift your .... off the seat in about 2 seconds?

I just saw this today....I will never miss the days of my stupid homemade smokes falling apart in the car....I would always attempt to catch them with some part of me, welll because I love my car...but I have never decided to jump out either...when that dude feels better (I hope he will be okay) he is going to feel REALLY stupid, and then maybe he'll take up vaping

Let's hope he won't forget to put the top back on his dripper and let a red coil fall flat onto his lap after burning his lips while driving and then run over his head cast!

LMBO!!! I did dump a whole tank of liquid on myself once...I still didnt hop up and run over my own head...but if anyone could figure out a way to do it - I most certainly thought I would first...LOL!!!
