I have been reading this invaluable forum with its vast array of information my head is about to explode!

One shot to convince my old man e-cig is the best alternative.

What should I get him I can't decide too many choices! He has been smoking typical Marlboro, but recently switched to cheapo Indian reservation stuff. 2 packs a week is a good average.

Size is not an issue and long as it gives him the good stuff for a reasonable amount of time before refilling with liquid. I am afraid this may be too tedious for him, but I hope he will like e-cig enough to feel that refilling with nicotine liquid is worth it.

Help me I would love to buy all I need today!

Sometimes its just not that easy, sorry!
At two packs a week he wont crave strong nic and has a very good shot at this working well. It is tedious, but cancer is more so. I always recommend the 901, try finding a started kit that comes with the juice and TWO atttys. Or possibly buy a disposable for cheap to make sure he likes this and in case he hates it, you are only out a small amount of money.

For someone that isn't a heavy smoker, a 901 would more than likely hit the spot. It mimics almost everything perfectly (altho it is a little heavier and longer than a normal cig) and is fairly easy to refill.

He could more than likely go with a lower nicotine solution (8 to 16) without any issues.

Actually he was a heavy smoker and the only reason he doesn't smoke a pack or more a day is because of the prices of cigarettes now are outrageous.

How much is the 901 going for now?

unknown, check out awesomevapor.com. i ordered my first 901 from there. the guy who owns/runs it is arno, hes a good no BS type of guy. i ordered the 901 kit which came with 5 carts and a little sample bottle of liquid and i ordered a 15ml bottle with my kit. 7 days into vaping my atomizer started giving me a nasty taste that wouldnt go away, i emailed him and he sent me a new atomizer with a FREE 15ml bottle of banana flavor liquid.

if you want to try a bunch of different flavors vaporcountry has some good prices for 10ml bottles of liquid

I just can't recommend an auto switch PV anymore like the 901, 801, etc. The manual switch PV's just work better IMO and hold up better. I would suggest trying the Joye 510 or Janty Stick. The Screwdriver is the best device in my opinion but I wouldn't get one until you know he will stick with it. Here is a link that might be helpful:

Best liked PV poll:

Looks like the Trog's screwdriver is popular in that vote. Looks like a heavy duty cig! :p

If it works well and is durable then it will be worth it!

It provides longer battery life (6-8 hours) and more consistent, better throat hit than most PV's on the market. And the replacement batteries are only $2 instead of $13-$20 for most PV's. And it is the same size as the 901 (uses the same atomizer). It's definitely a gem.

In reading the title: One shot to convince my old man, I immediately thought of the Screwdriver. Especially now that you have said he is a heavy smoker only smoking less right now because of the price of cigarettes. The start up price is significant compared to the tube types. But for ease of use, ease/cost of finding parts, durability, long time cost effectiveness, satisfaction (vapor/throat hit) it cant be beat right now on the commercial front. Yes, there are newer devices that copy it and a little less in price, but, they are new and still going through the test of time.

If the price seems to steep for you at this time I would suggest the Dura-C, 510, Titan, etc. with a (dual purpose) manual battery as the Screwdriver has. The (dual purpose) manual battery is designed for dripping but can also be used with cartridges. (Auto batteries can be easily fouled/destroyed by dripping). The manual battery is closed/sealed to prevent this. This is something many here fail to mention. But I feel it is important in making a decision as to what to purchase.

Why not start out with a dual purpose manual battery to find out if it is easier and less fuss to just drip your liquid, or if you won't mind all the tasks of the cartridges. Or you just enjoy both methods.

Most of the time just dripping works best for my busy lifestyle. But, I also enjoy having the choice to use a cartridge sometimes too. I personally own one version or another of the tube type personal vaporizers. I exclusively use the Screwdriver most of the time, and the Dura-C when I am a public occasion which requires nice dress.

The screwdriver comes with all the essentials (to get started). The Dura-C, 501, Titan.... can come in a kit, but you should purchase a few extras to make transitioning easier, ie: a good bottle of liquid, couple of extra empty cartridges, maybe a usb passthrough.

Hope this helps, let us know what you decide. And welcome to ECF!

this poll makes a little more sense.......http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...reviews/13928-primary-device-preferences.html

also the screwdriver is not the same size as a 901.........only uses the same atty, but yes it has excellent batt life and should be very durable

edit....also if he won't want to fiddle with batts and stuff if may be what he's looking for

I really don't think that poll makes more sense than the other one. I do however think it shows that possibly because of the economy fewer people are probably able to purchase and try the Screwdriver. Or it would have the top bill on that poll too. Just my humble opinion???

For the least hassle a cartomizer type disposable might be the best choice. Not that expensive so the loss is reduced if it doesn't work out.

If he likes vaping off the disposable then I would consider something like the screwdriver.

Least hassle, cartomizer, disposable? Which brand are you reccomending? I see nothing but hassle with most of them on this site. For that very fact I would never purchase one. Though, I have used the Ruyan Jazz on an airplane. But it is not consistant and very expensive to buy. I would just use it for a special occasion. Typically what is called a cartomizer is very expensive too.

merely showing primary device preferences as in.. used the most consistently and I also wasn't saying it was second best....just that the sd and the 510 are used far and above the rest.......and as I also stated if he doesn't want to fiddle with batts and the like. The screwdriver may be the best option. ( I just believe favorite device is not the same as primary device) My favorite car is a ferrari, but it is certainly not my primary car.
