One week into vaping and still coughing

I have smoked for 30 years newport lights. 1-2 pad and I cannot inhale vanilla/coconut 18 mgs after one week. I have tried pg and vg. Vg seems less harsh then pg. I try to inhale and gag..What am I doing wrong??

If I can't inhale I can't vape and do not want to do analogs..What to do?

are you drawing it into your mouth and then inhaling? if you're inhaling it directly into your lungs that can cause the coughing/gagging.

i've been using Atomic Cinnacide at 24mg (which has pretty good TH) a lot and if i do a lung hit it messes me up. doing a mouth draw it's fine. i'm also using a Chuck which gives a much better throat hit compared to a standard 510 battery anyways.

Ditto to Strigoi. Do a mouth inhale, and THEN inhale into your lungs, when you've finished the drag.

I am convinced that this reaction is, in fact, a result of smoking.

While I was smoking, sometimes if I yawned in the shower, I would hack my brains out. It's just steam.

When I first started with e-cigs, I had to do a mouth inhale, because if I inhaled right into my lungs, I hacked my brains out. It's just vapor.

Now, almost 2 months without cigs, I can do a lung inhale just fine.

Perhaps something about smoking irritates the throat in such a way as to make it hard to inhale vapor.

No I am not inhaling into my lungs. I draw into my mouth and let most of it out and then inhale little and gag..wth..I want to give up analogs but I don't know how to do this.

Sounds like you have only tried coconut and vanilla, try other flavors, lower nicotine and/or cut it with VG which is milder than PG.

I only coughed a bunch when I didn't know to blow out the primer, or when I fired the atty so long that it got "too hot" and burned. You may try a different juice with varying nicotine strengths.

that might have to do with your cilia. here's a page with a little info that's kind of interesting.

How does Smoking Affect the Cilia?

It's because you have no silica, or whatever those little hairs are that line your trachea. So instead of the vapor particles landing on the hairs they land directly on the tissue and your brain registers that as drowning.

This is one of the reasons some suggest that newbies start with a mini model and not a mod. What kind of PV are you using?

And regardless, as your airways heal, this will pass. Take mini hits for now.

If I take a LARGE inhale I still cough, so I dont do that lol (I still forget occasionally and yank a ton in then cough like a consumptive for a while whilst berating myself - its slow, smooth draws, not like cig smoking where you can pretty much drag on it as hard you want)

It could be your technique, as others have suggested, or it could be just be some lingering smoke-withdrawal symptoms. I coughed consistently for a week and a half or so after I started vaping. I got almost 100% better, but my current relapse I attribute to our building's abysmally crappy ventilation system.

I thought the same thing when I started. It took a while to get the technique down cuz even though it looks like you're smoking it's a different animal. I got my kit, charged the batty, put a cart on and took a big old hit thinking this was gonna be just like smoking! NOT! I coughed and hacked for 20 minutes! Thought I was gonna die! It took a few weeks and I ordered blank carts and switched to salt water taffy, but I got it. This is especially true if you're going back and forth between analogs and ecigs. I would choke to death on an analog these days!

It just takes practice I remember coughing really bad all the time when I first started. My best advice to you is to inhale and exhale slowly.

I am only a week into this. I spent the first 2 days coughing my head off every time I took a hit. I used the lowest nic I had, a 11 mg, and drank a ton of water, and took very very small hits. And by day 3 there was a big difference!! Very little coughing. Hang in there!! It does get better and when it does it is great!!!

My daughter in law had that, until she invented a solution this morning. Sh put a tiny piece of tissue in her cart, one layer the size of the cart in diameter and added ONE drop of water then vaped - no choking on the hit, and it lasted 12 hits before needing more water for her. Might help you too.
