Spent the first extended time away from home with limited supplies with no back ups this weekend. 4 days with only a battery charger and a couple of bottles of juice at the the Dragboat Races. Lots of hot dusty conditions and bumping around in a golf cart. Everything ran flawless until last night. Some where on the way home in the dark the button on one got stuck when I got home and went to grab it it was very warm, almost too hot to touch. I flicked the door open, knocked the battery out and dropped them both in the yard. After a while when they cooled down I took the inside and gave the REO an ultrasonic bath, it survive the ordeal and didn't drop a spring. So basically it just got a really long dry burn.

The battery (AW IMR 18650 2200mah) was reading 2.87 volts when it went on the charger, it's only a couple of months old and has never been discharged below 3.70 and usually never gets below 3.8 volts. I got lucky. So now Im wondering if the battery should stay in the rotation or not?

By the way a few folks on one of the Top Fuel Hydro teams noticed and questioned me about the REO's and were very impressed with the design and machine work. I took that as huge complement from folks who know a thing or 2 about making some pretty custom things themselves.

If ever out and about and the button sticks agsin on a metal reo just remove the atty and the battery and rinse soapy water threw the reo and button area real good. Dry it off real good and shake the water out as good as you can and you should be back vaping in a min or 2. No need to wait long for it to dry.

Just had to do that the other day to my older but updated tumbled raw grand.

I'd say recycle the battery, but spending money for another battery is worth it to be completely sure it's safe in my opinion.
I'm more curious about the spring not collapsing since you said it was almost too hot to touch. That's our safety feature to prevent this situation escalating to something bad. I know Russ has collapsed one in a video pretty easily, I figured yours would have. Unless it was an old spring? Did the old springs not collapse?

You were in my hometown. I actually live in marble falls. Terrible that the guy passed away in the accident. :(

Small world, I'm up the river in Kingsland.

Pretty bad deal, but quite different than what most people would expect. While the dragboat community is sad to loose a member they are also glad that he was doing what he loved. They all know the game and how it generally ends and it doesn't stop them or even bother them. I was at the end of the creek so it happened right in front of me and I helped take the pieces off the boats and jet skis as they brought it to shore.

As Ray pointed out earlier, the battery should still be good. You have to discharge it down below 2.5v for it to go bad. I would charge it back up and vape it to get an idea of how it holds the charge before I pitched it out... I regularly drain a few of mine down in the 2.8v range at least once a week when I am out working and I forgot to pack a spare or a back up device. Never noticed a difference in them at all...
