All the ones I've tried have been press fit. I've never had a duff atomiser and a duff battery at the same time so I haven't tried the obvious method of screwing them together and pulling hard, knowing my luck it would be the good one that came out :)

Using an atomizer to get the top out of a 901 battery is very easy and then you can have at the entire guts of the thing without destroying the pressure switch - The pressure switch WILL NOT hold up to the higher current draw of say my magnum mod or a USB mod. Amperage goes up to around 1.34 amps - I am currently working on a PWM controller that will rock when I get the Voltage compensation circuit worked out and YEAH it WILL be free for all.

the downside to this is that you can also get idiots editing the pages, and vandalising, or replacing content with links to dubious websites. Measures can be put in place to quell the flow of spamsters, but it's almost impossible to prevent spam altogether.

They support ACLs (Access control lists.) Just make user accounts with edit access for people you trust. Easy.

Things that may be useful in the wiki for cartridge design, if we can get it:

1. surface tension of various e-liquids. (Should equate to how much the liquid clings to the cartridge medium.)
2. viscosity of various e-liquids. (Should equate to how slowly it gets wicked and... how slowly it drains into the mouthpiece for poorer designs.)

1 may be a little difficult to measure - I'm not a chemist - but I think it should be fairly close to propylene glycol or glycerine (depending on brand) - these are readily available. 2 will depend a lot more on even its minor constituents (try adding a drop of detergent to water.) But I think this can easily be measured using a capillary tube.

That would be more useful if the goal of this open source thing were to create technical specifications for production of an e-cigarette.

At this stage though, I'm a little unclear as to what the goals are.

I went ahead and set this forum thing up anyway on the off chance you want to use it (the power of procrastinating at work): opencig[dot]cucurucho[dot]org/forum/

Although, setting up a separate forum here would probably make life easier for most.

p.s. don't yet have the right to post urls, so excuse the [dot]s

I just had a quick look at open - I'm impressed, it looks as if it'll do all that's required.

Many thanks to Cucurucho, I'd suggest we go ahead with this........

trying to make my battery pack simpler and neater and have got to this stage for the internals , all just push fit inside the tube
its just back yard stuff , its easy to make
first bodge wiring top , new improved bodge wiring lower
this wiring suits either single or the twin atomiser endcap

............. I surmised in another post that the thread on my 801 is M10x1mm pitch - it's actually a very rare, extra fine metric pitch - M9 x 0.75mm pitch.

Now taps and dies for this size are rarer than Rocking Horse Poop - they are available, but at a ridiculous price, i.e. - around £50 for the die & £35 for the tap.

Barry

I just realised that a lot of panel mounting toggle switches, potentiometers etc, have M9 x 0.75mm threads.

I have also managed to get taps and dies in that size from Tracey Tools, website here: Tracy Tools :: Devon, UK

The actual adapters would be easy to make, the problems come when you try to identify the thread, I surmised in another post that the thread on my 801 is M10x1mm pitch - it's actually a very rare, extra fine metric pitch - M9 x 0.75mm pitch.

Now taps and dies for this size are rarer than Rocking Horse Poop - they are available, but at a ridiculous price, i.e. - around £50 for the die & £35 for the tap.

I'm guessing that any other threads on other makes/styles of cigarette will be equally rare metric extra fine.

Now- I'm some of the people on these forums have identified these threads but, so far have shown no inclination to share that information with the rest of us.

This is why I feel we need an independent, open source project, where this sort of information can be stored - and some of the smoke & flim-flam that's being introduced can be filtered out.

So as I said, if anyone wants adapters made - send me a couple of broken components, of the type you want to be able to fit together and I'll see what I can do. (pm me for my address)

THanks for the mention of the'grommet' device in the atomiser - I hadn't even consider that something like that was incorporated - I'll have to cut an atomiser open and take a good look at what it actually consists of.

Cheers
Barry

Got a thread gauge on the battery and 0.75 does fit perfectly, thanks for the confirm.

With the taps and dies being that expensive, might give it a go on the mini-lathe, gear table says it is possible. Not ideal for production, but I have a lot of time on my hands :).

And yes, open source gets my vote :).

Thanks & take care, Fox3

One of the 8 pin AVRs would do quite nicely I would think. Drive a transistor switch rated for the load and you should be in Fat City (Just outside of Metarie :).

Should probably see what is available in reasonably small SMTs that will handle that kind of load.
