I started a couple years ago with a cig-a-like, highest nicotine I could get, (I don't remember what it was), and "tabacco" flavor. Coming off 30+ years of a pack-a-day+ Reds, I figured that was the way to go... And it was, sort of. Like Gena, added stress sent me back to analogs, except now they're ultra lights, and I'm down to less than half a pack per day.

I've been trying other flavors, (right now I'm vaping RY4 with extra carmel), and things are improving. My biggest issue was not so much which device or method to use, but which flavors and suppliers will work for me.

One concern I had was that I enjoy a smoke after a meal, and I was afraid that vaping food flavors would just trigger my desire for an analog. I've found recently that that's not really the case for me at all. *Thanks whatever powers are responsible for that one!*

Truth be told, my biggest improvements and attempts to completely quit analogs is due, in a large part, to this site and all the great people here. Thank you all!!

It's all personal preference and what tastes good to you........... The trick is to buy in SMALL quantities until you find something you really like.

Pretty much sims it up! Now I'll bore ya with a gazillion "words"!

GENA .... your last sentence ("I am afraid of failure but baby steps I will take.") suggests you are doing fine - even if you do smoke the real deal now and then; " Perfect attitude! Just like kicking drugs - one step - one minute - one day and at each one YOU remember, "...baby steps I will take"!

Flavors? As suggested - small amounts - find the ones that help you forget that 'taste' you are seeking...... trick the brain.

Yup. it's more difficult than "hard drugs". They are a challenge - folks go into a "rehabilitation facility to kick the "drug habit' (Illegal and prescription alike); however, we have no such "drug addiction facility" for cigarettes. I was and am still fighting the "tobacco flavor" battle even though I know there is not a 'flavor' made by anyone - no matter what they claim nor how hard they try - which will taste like the real deal. How wonderful it would be if we could 'Check IN' and then 'Check OUT' of a "cigarette addiction rehab' facility or if the 'taste' of these 'juices' did it IMMEDIATELY. They sure don't for ME and if folks are truthful it does NOT for many I know who 'vape'.

Fruit Flavors - Dessert flavors - all they seem to do is make me hungry! Just what I need! TOSSING OUT the real deal? Nope - not for me. I AM resisting them BECAUSE they are easily 'grabbed' - not because they are NOT available. I put my 'stash' in my truck - so when i DID 'sneak' one (none since 11-27-2013) I had to go into the cold to do it; each of us are different, but I wouldn't recommend tossing them out - BUT if that works for YOU - do it!. Pat yourself on te back every time you don't give in to that urge. Drug addicts WE ARE ....... and we will ALWAYS be so; if flavors did it - few of us would need these electronic 'pains in the ....' devices.

You are obviously fighting a battle. The used too much ...... "HANG IN THERE" is old --- but it is really sound advise. There is NO failure in not being perfect and "Just Doing It". You ARE "Doing It" ---- every single time you 'vape' it is one fewer cigarette you smoke! SUCCESS!

Good thoughts your way.

I had to go dig up this post. I read it over and over when I first started. It helped me "remember" why I was (am) 'vaping':

"XG4BX" said:

I've been at this a few months and have come to the conclusion that nothing out there tastes like a cig. nothing. Yes the tobacco juices taste good but they're nothing like cigs.

I think smokers taste buds are so deadened that they only think cigs taste good. They don't. I've smoked a few recently and they tasted exactly like the way an overfilled ashtray smells.

If you're new at this or are considering getting into e-smoking, just know that you probably won't match the taste of your favorite cigs. I would actually suggest that newbs try starting out with richer flavors such as coffee or vanilla.

FOR ME: I forgot in the prior post ....... "VANILLA" was a help. I've no idea 'why'. It just was.... and when BLACK TOBACCO had a 'hint' of it in the 'juice'........ it was even better; remember now ....... "better for ME .... maybe not YOU.

Strange thing ....... NOW ....... I dislike "VANILLA" if it is 'strong'! When I started I wanted 'MORE" in every 'hit'. Cigarettes are the same way. NOW ....... I hate the 'dirty ashtray' I 'see' in my mind when I vape 'vanilla'! It is mostly 'the MIND'!

Take your time and don't worry about mixing tobacco with your vaping till you find the Vape that suits you it can take a bit of time sometimes so relax and keep trying different flavours and nic strengths. One day you'll hit a nic strength and a flavour and won't notice you haven't had tobacco for hours that's how it works for most of the people I've helped. Some people put pressure on themselves to make it work or feel they have failed if they don't give up as soon as they try a kit but were all different and all take different times to make the switch. Me I'm on fruits love peach and enjoying a red cherry at the minute I vape 18mg flavours but get a few 5ml samples and see how you get on.

Great thing is none of us are going anywhere so take as long as you need there will always be help here whatever you do :).

I literally -vowed- to only vape tobacco flavors when I proudly bought my first Ego kit.

Skip forward a month, I am on Apple and Mango, with what I think will be a great Menthol steeping in a drawer, and I have a caramel waiting to be vaped tomorrow....

So yeah, hmm.

I echo all of the above, try try try, and try some more until you find a "sweet" spot. Then your taste buds adjust, rinse and repeat :)

In my case I was looking to replace the menthol taste / effect. Thing is that every menthol juice reminded me of the analogs. So, I decided to go a different route - fruit flavors and boom - done deal. No urge for an analog.

My theory is that some folks (me) need to get far away from the addiction. I also found it too similar to smoking using my evod batteries. I picked up an MVP and truly believe the odd form factor actually helps me put 'mental separation' between smoking and vaping.

Sorry for the ramble.

Is it easier to quit analogs by vaping tobacco flavors or other flavors? I have tried all kinds of flavors but still smoke analogs. It seems like everyone I know has health related issues due to smoking and more recently my best friend was hospitalized because of bronchitis and copd. While in the hospital the Dr. has found a mass on her lung. I am just tired of worrying about my health and I am the only one that can change it. I am afraid of failure but baby steps I will take.

It wasn't just the flavor, it's finding the better gear than a Blu or Njoy that sealed the deal for me - the vapor production and throat his were just as important as the flavor and getting the nicotine urge satisfied - and I think the #1 thing that did it for me was the strength of the nicotine. 4mg nicorette gum barely did it, 24mg liquid did it for me.

If you're still smoking, up your nicotine level. I think you might find, like a lot of us did, that at higher nic levels, you won't even think about smoking.

What kind of liquid are you using, and what gear?

And, I hope your friend gets better!

I admire all of you who started with Blus and such and stuck through it. I hear people complain every day about Blu, but they're holding an ego battery in their hand, and all I can say is, "At least that lit the spark and brought you to your ego". Blus are trashed and I understand why, but without Blu, many vapers would not be where they are today.

I don't use Blu's, but I do have six Volt batteries that, while not used often, are still highly valued in my arsenal.

I started with tobacco flavors and still vape them. I diy so my flavors are a combination of tobacco and vanillas/nuts/caramel. I had problems finding juices I like so I finally decided to make my own and vape them today. I think finding a juice you love is 90% of the battle. Even vendor juices I buy I have to doctor up a bit to my liking.

There are usually two types of people: "I want it to taste just like a cigarette!" or "I want it to taste nothing like a cigarette!" I was in the "want it to taste like a cigarette" camp at first. I quickly learned that is impossible. The closest I'd ever get would be what tobacco smells like before it's combusted. It's impossible to recreate the taste of burning combustion. I know vapers who've been doing this over a year who vape (what I feel) is the NASTIEST tobacco flavors out there. But they love them. And I'm no one to judge. Whatever works, man. But I've also seen stinky, grizzled, 30-year PAD smokers digging blueberry and stuff like that, too. And I remember hearing them swear, "I'll never try flavors! If I wanted a blueberry, I'd eat one!" After a while, blueberry is the only juice they'll use.

Very interesting comment. I was in the replace the cigarette with an exact duplicate category. The longer I have been vaping however the less I seek tobacco flavors. That is why it is difficult to quit tobacco. It is a unique dependence for each individual.

I am not sure that tobacco flavor vs non tobacco flavors has much to do with being able to quit. I think its natural for new vapers to seek tobacco flavors when they first venture into to e cigarettes, but that is psychological, the belief that a tobacco flavor is what they need.

Quitting period is mostly psychological .. Maybe you are not ready quit because in reality you do not want to quit, but you feel that you "should" quit for health reasons. I say this because many smokers "like" smoking, but they beat themselves up with trying to quit because they know their health is at risk.

I didn't quit smoking until I wanted to quit ... I vaped and smoked for quite a long time, because while I liked vaping, I also still liked smoking. But the day did arrive where I genuinely did not want to smoke anymore, and then I was done. I increased my nicotine level in my eliquid, and I haven't looked back since. Try not to be hard on yourself, everyone does not quit right away, and that is ok.

. . .I am afraid of failure but baby steps I will take.

Don't be afraid. . .just get back on that horse. I wish your friend well. I smoked tobacco for more than 52 years. 2.5 PAD when I started vaping. I was convinced I'd never quit smoking. Well. . .My last cigarette was two and a half years ago. Feb 6th was my last vape. Now, I miss neither. When I started. . .affore I knew which was "a hole in the ground", I purchased loads of everybodies "didn't likes and don't wants". Can get lots of eLiquids cheap to try that way. I didn't care for the tobacco flavors at all, but loved the heck out of Cinnamon. It's really a trial and error thing. You'll know it when you find it. . .main thing is to keep trying. Many stop the analogs with their first vape. . .took me 6 months to get to "Solo Vaping". That's what I call a die hard. Good Luck with your quit(s). JMHO

Cheers,
otrpu

I agree with retired. I started vaping tobacco flavors first and was almost afraid to try other flavors, but after my first chocolate vape I was hooked! I honestly have had no interest in tobacco flavors whatsoever. To be fair, I swore to myself I wasn't going to get hooked on vaping while smoking, and I haven't had a cigarette since I started. I think quitting cold turkey like that somehow turned me off to tobacco in any way. I didn't want to replace smoking, with vaping, I wanted it 2 be a whole new thing.

I've been a pack a day smoker for 8 years and just got my first eGo in the mail last night and haven't smoked an analog in 30 hours. It's just will power. Get a good vape with 18mg of nicotine or so and use it whenever you get cravings. It's a bit to get used to but I'm having zero issues so far. It's surprisingly easy. I just needed something with a solid throat hit and thick vapor. Halo's HX3 blend was a smooth transition but now I'm starting with dessert vapes I really enjoy to the point where an analog would just taste foul by comparison : P
