I've been building some coils for my REO. I use 28 gauge kanthal. I have used organic cotton, organic bamboo, both not boiled and boiled. Yesterday I tried xc116. Every single time I taste something "funny." Slightly different funny depending on the wick, but something unpleasant every time. I do not think it's the juice, I have tried GL Deadly Sin & Bryce's Vanilla Pudding, same thing. What are your opinions on why I might be having this problem and what else I can try?

If you dryburn with the XC you could get some ash or burn crap left over on the wick. I found it helps to torch the XC before using it. Try to dry burn the crap out of the coil while blowing on it. Also, If you did happen to burn the juice it can sometimes get pulled down into the RM2 reservior or even back into your bottle. Make sure to clean the bad juice out. I just took the juice bottle out, put some papertowel in there, put the cap on, covered the air hole and blew into the RM2.

The first time I used XC I did a short dry burn and then the juice tasted bad. I then just held the button down and got it flaming untill the wick itself was glowing and just kept blowing on it. Now it tastes great!

My guess is that the wick is too tight in the coil. :)

I remember ;) Since you told me that initially I've been really trying to be loose, loose, loose! I WILL post some pics, as soon as I wrap some new ones since the ones so far have gone into the trash in frustration!

Thanks everybody!!!

Alright, after take a break to let the frustration fade away I am back to problem solving. I watched super_x_drifter's videos again, which is how I learned to build. Having your comments about coils being too tight in mind, I heard "17 gauge" needle. I compared what I am using (an eyeglass screwdriver) to the video, looks smaller. I googled 17 gauge needle images, put my eyeglass screwdriver up to the 17 gauge needle image, definitely smaller! So now I am on the hunt for something to use that is the right size. I'm picking my dogs up from boarding today and I am seriously thinking of asking my vet for a 17 gauge needle!!

Make sure it's a blunt tip :)

Which is smaller the eyeglass screwdriver or the needle? I ask because you can also use a 1/16" drill bit.

If you have a michaels, you should try to get the artistic wire coil gizmo. It makes coiling so easy. I have a video about it. It's all I use now.

Here's the vid :)

It has 5 different mandrels in it. The second smallest is just about 1/16" and is perfect for micro coils :)

See about getting some Koh Gen Do cotton too. :)

The eyeglass screwdriver is smaller. Got the Koh Gen Do cotton from Amazon so it's ready! Good call on the coil gizmo, I read about it before and then forgot it. I checked Hobby Lobby, which is in my town, and they have it. Back to building tomorrow after a trip to go get it! Thanks everybody, I've still been squonking away but with your generous help I'm going to create my PERFECT vape!
