So I finally broke down and ordered my first mod a ST SiD. I was planning on holding out until the iTaste 134 came out because the thing looks amazing and I shoot USPSA comps so with the look of it they would go hand in hand. But if the 134 is going to use a 18650 battery that thing is gunna be huge. So I decided on the SiD, it has all the features I want in a really nice price point. I plan on getting a 18350 tube and cell for it to reduce the form factor a little. So I have a few questions I already have a few cheapo 18650 cells to get started with but I was wondering about some higher quality cells like the panisonic and Samsung cells. What cell are you guys and gal are using with your mods. And yes I know how to use the search button this is easier for me but thanx anyway :p

the 134 looks massive! I just ordered the itaste svd. it'll be here tomorrow. It'll be my first mod. i've been using ecigs on and off for a while. Hated em. Then I got a eGo style mini. Love it.

As for cells, I hear cheap ones pose a safety issue... but at the same time, my uncle is a hobbyist and uses a lot of many different types of batters. He hasn't seen too many fail in his life time of playing with RC cars and planes. Normally when they fail, it's because they are old and abused and allowed to be shorted for too long. I heard about that guy that got hurt when hes ecig exploded, but at the same time... people have died from using lava lamps.

I am also a RC hobbyist and have been racing RC for over 20 years. I know the chemistry of the cells and know how to take care of them. I could tell you a lot about the LiPos we use for that and I am also a bit of a lighthound with flashlights, that's how I know that the panisonic cells are the best ones as far a holding a load. But it also seems that there are a lot of cells out there that don't fit either. RC is a lot easier cause I can hack up a $5 battery tray no problem, not gunna happen with $50 mod

Hi Omenwolf - the most recommended batteries for these kind of mods are IMRs - they have safer chemistry and can handle the drain. Of the IMRS the most recommended are AW IMR. Efest IMR are good and there is a good Panasonic hybrid.
I'll link a post here that has links to where you can buy all of those - RTD Vapor - a lot of vapers buy their batteries from there:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/vamo/376482-vamo-battery-question.html#post8521341

You may also want to read through the ECF guide on rechargeable batteries:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html

In part it says this:
"We suggest the best option, in order, is:

1. AW IMR Li-Mn rechargeables.
2. AW Li-FePo4 rechargeables [Li-FePo4's MUST HAVE A SPECIAL CHARGER]. Note that these batteries are mostly 3 volt nominal so the system voltage will be lower than normal.
3. Good quality (such as AW or Pila) protected Li-ion rechargeables.
4. Branded protected Li-ions come next - such as xxxfire Li-ion rechargeables (for xxx insert Trust / Sure / Ultra-).
5. The least-preferable option is a generic protected Li-ion.
6. Unprotected rechargeable Li-ion cells should not be used.
7. Standard cells (non-rechargeable) should not be used."

And congrats on getting the SiD - hope you enjoy it.

Hey there, I've seen you around some of the rc forums lol........ Not sure if you'll recognize my username but I'm mainly on rctech (same username)..........

I started out with v2 cigs then bought the innokin itaste and just recently got my smoktech sid in earlier this week. I really like it and like that the battery tubes are interchangeable with the joytech evic's and anyvape's tubes........ I also plan on buying an anyvape 18350 tube just to shorten it down a bit. And yes battery fitment can be an issue, I currently have two different trustfire protected 18650's and unfortunately the 3000mah will only fit if you force it in there. My 2400mah's fit just fine so be careful if you order the higher mah one's since fitment may be an issue.......

Yea I recognize the username, I am also a mod on thetoyz which I think your over there too?
That's what I have is the ultrafires to get me started with the Sid, I hope they fit. I will definatly be ordering some panisonic or IW 18650 and 18350 with the generic anyvape 18350 tube. The other ones look nice but if I can have a choice with logos and whatnot im gunna choose the one without.
thanx for the links kiwivape.

I got a SID a couple of weeks ago... my first mod.. it works really great, good choice omenwolf...

Imho, the best batteries on the market (with a "safer" chemistry), are :

In 18650, and in order of preference :
Panasonic NCR18650PD 2900mAh (liMn chemistry)
Panasonic CGR18650CH 2250mAh (liMn chemistry)
AW IMR 18650 2000 mAh (liMn chemistry)

In 18350, the AW IMR 700 mAh (liMn chemistry) are the best.. too bad panasonic doesn't make any 18350, maybe one day...

Have fun vaping

Oustanding advice, as usual, Kiwi. Like he said...!
