Organic wicks

Hey dudes and dudettes,
While ive never actually TRIED them, lately ive been thinking about giving em a go. Anybody have any opinions on hemp fiber rope wicks?
Do they have any weird taste? This is what i would expect and the main reason i havent already given it a go.
On the same note.... has anybody tried a large pot stem as a wick? Debudded obviously. It seems to me the interior of the stem would soak up a lot of eliquid given its function as vascular tissue. (This second part is a joke, dont do it, positive it would give a "funky" or "groovy" flavour to it. ha)

I've tried hemp wicks (wicks, people... I'm talking about wicks). They stink. Literally. To high heaven. You have to triple boil them for 20 mins each time to get the aroma down to less than compost scented air freshener levels.

They wick about the same as cotton and are less susceptible to burning. It's also dirt cheap to buy (1 kg is, like, $3).

Not even gonna touch your other suggestion.
