I prefer four (feet) on the floor...

Nah, anymore I honestly prefer an auto. This is two-part:
(1.) I'm old and don't care how my Mustang runs now just as long as it runs. Chevettes pass me on the interstate, zoom zoom zoom!, and I just grumble about "them darn kids."
(2.) I prefer manual PVs, and I change radio stations with wreckless abandon. I can't do the one-handed Detroit Lean driving position, switch gears, and do all the rest with two hands. And playing air drums... WAY too hard to mimic the tom fill of "In The Air Tonight" pulling out from a red light when you're grinding gears.

All I've ever purchased is manuals after learning to drive on a '63 Chevy with a "3 on the column". Yikes, talk about travel ... you had to move the stick up, over, and up, about 18" total to get from 1'st to 2'nd.

8-o I think I would've just given up and walked. (Or called a cab!)

I love a manual transmission. The first car I got to pick (that wasn't a hand me down from the 'rents) was a 5spd Acura Integra GSR. Gosh I miss that car. Then I started losing function in my legs and I had to go auto. Swore I would never drive a mini van, but after the third back surgery, I have a modified Honda Odyssey that has a wheelchair ramp. Much better than taking my chair apart every time I want to get in/out (even if it only takes 30 sec to do).

i've always preferred manual 5-speed hondas in the past.... but if you have looked at buying a vehicle lately, they are not that easy to find! they don't seem to be on the lots either....you have to order them that way.

i bought my first automatic a few years ago, a standard size SUV. love it! manuals are great for compact or sports cars, but i didn't like them on a full size SUV.

Yeah. I tried to teach my husband how to drive a manual and it didn't go so well. I think more because I'm not a good teacher. LOL!!! It ended with him braking and not pushing the clutch, we were approaching a busy intersection so I yelled CLUTCH CLUTCH CLUTCH! So he got off of the brake and hit the clutch, we started rolling into the inthersection, so I yelled BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE! The truck died right before we got to the line. He got out and refused to drive back. Since then he drove once when I was falling asleep driving...he woke me up to ask how to stop at a red light. But he did very good, except all the grinding and revving. So I know he's good to go in an emergency, but other than that we go everywhere in his car (which I don't really mind becaue then I don't have to drive).

I prefer my manual trans over automatic anyday. The mt is much more reliable. Clutches are much cheaper than a new transmission on an auto. You actually feel like your in control of the cars power. And my favorite, my parents and friend can't drive it because they don't know how! I have an 02 ford zx2. I will never buy another automatic car again. Manuals are just so much better. And cheaper from the start too. I love it. I don't even feel like I'm changing gears anymore. I laugh when I go to drive my girlfriends car and reach for the ebrake or press my foot on an invisible clutch pedal and try to wiggle around the automatic shifter lol

My first car was a manual and I am glad I learned how to drive it, would love it but the majority of my driving is in town so it's a pain... Was glad one night when my hubbys friend looked at me (all 5ft 1inch) and said there was no way I could ever handle his manual truck.... well I love a challenge took off with the truck and didn't return for half an hour....needless to say - he doesn't challege me anymore:)
