Out of nowhere, everything is horrid?

I posted this in the "ask the experts" forum, but realized it would be better suited to multiple opinions. mods feel free to discard the email.

I've been vaping for a few weeks, and loving it. There's only been one and a half flavors I've not liked or had bad experiences with. So far so good, fast forward to three days ago...

I did a few big orders to try and find something that I REALLY enjoyed a lot. I have total of 7 flavors from a couple respected vendors, and some new atomizers as to to not clash flavors. I cleaned out all the atomizers before loading them up by boiling and blowing out the primer fluid as recommended on here. Everything was WONDERFUL! I was even digging one of the for mentioned flavors that I didn't like before.

The next morning, my office smelled EXACTLY like my car did when I blew a heater core, leaking coolant in the passenger cabin. Now, all my liquids taste bad to me. The only thing I can stand to vape is the fireball at the moment. Everything else tastes repulsive!

I know it shouldn't be the attys, for they were doing fine before. I know I was thoroughly enjoying all of the juices as well. I had a moment of zen the day before this happened where everything was far better than I had ever expected. It really was sudden and out of nowhere.

Any clue what could cause this? Taste buds going through "the change"? Over consumption? Anyone else gone through this phase? I'm at a loss. It makes no sense to me why something so yummy one day would be so disgusting the next. Help me out if you guys have any ideas.

I've sort of had this - but instead of horrid I just get blah or not much at all taste.
One day I'll be vaping stuff and in heaven the next day, it tastes like nothing or phlegm or just..blah. maybe a coffee flavor will break thru. Then a day or so later - back to yum.
I can only make a guess that my tastebuds just get 'burned out' on a certain 'flavor spectrum'. I was thinking back to when i smoked - and I dont remember tasting so many new flavors in a short amount of time (not being a huge eater) and I wonder if that might be the case.
As a note, my sense of smell goes the same way - I never had a big dropoff in taste n smell while a smoker - I smoked ultralights and prided myself on my good sense of smell so I haven't seen a big change since I gave up the ciggies.
I wonder if this is what is happening to you or whether its something else?

That makes sense. The only two things I can really think of are..

1. My taste buds are healing from not smoking in a couple weeks, and things are tasting funny to me.

or

2. I've tried so many different flavors over the past few days, that all I can taste is the COMMON ingredient, which would be the PG.

I really do hope all this comes back to normal. I was going to write a review of some Halo liquid that next day, spending about an hour on each making notes since I have all but one flavor here at the moment. I've decided it may not be the best time to be giving opinions though until this gets sorted out.

I had mixed a few small batches of Capella's Milk Chocolate Toffee and boy were they great (just have to go light on the flavoring)! So I mixed a 30ml batch and 2-3 days later I could not stand it at all---whether vaping or smelling the vapor produced!!!!

It lasted about 2 days, then all was good again....

A week later I ate 2 Carls Junior $1.29 burgers again and lo and behold, I could not stand the MCToffee yet again!

I surmised that it was the fresh onions on the burger that really knocked my tastebuds for a loop. Only thing that tasted decent to me was a batch of Lorann's Mint Chocolate Chip.

I know that it wasn't the ketchup, mustard or mayo since I always order my burgers without these items. Maybe the charbroiling?

No more onions for awhile (and I do love me some carne asada super burritos!!!), at least until I try a burger without them, cuz I really LOVE what I mixed.....

HTH!!!

hmm ok . Was wondering if you kept them in the fridge, I have seen many horror story's of people who kept there whole stash in the old fridge and overnight they would all go bad. I'm clueless....I wonder what a new atty would do for ya

Ha! I was about to go put everything in the fridge since I'd ordered so much. Seemed like common sense, and RIGHT before I went to the kitchen, I saw a thread about not doing that. I guess my guardian angel was watching out for me.

Well, there are lots of possibilities suggested here. I sort of doubt it's the juice and--barring a failing battery (I've had flavors and vapor "wake up"' all of the sudden when I switched batts) or some other part of the hardware failing in some way, I tend to believe there must be something going on with the taste buds. Question is, what? I, too, have experienced this phenomenon with juice I 'loved' the day before or even 2 hours before. It tends to happen more often when I'm chain vaping. When I vape a lot, my mouth gets dry and my tongue might get coated. Usually I have a glass of water or watered down juice or something else beside me if I'm going to be on the computer while I'm puffing away but sometimes I get lazy or involved with what I'm doing. We know that pg in particular can dehydrate you. If you don't pay attention to hydration, your mouth and throat will dry out and your heart rate might even go up. So I wonder if lack of sufficient hydration is also a potential source--at least some of the time.

I googled 'taste loss" and found this on the BBC health page:

Any condition that results in a dry mouth can cause problems [with taste] because saliva is essential for taste. Chemicals in food or drink dissolve in saliva and this bathes the taste buds. In a dry mouth, the chemicals never reach the taste buds.
