Hi all! This is my first thread and first post. I love this forum!

I am fearful that anything I say, even in this "new members forum" will sound way too uninformed. After reading hundreds of threads, the discussions are usually way over my head. I've been reading this info for 4 solid days - 10-12 hours each day. I have a huge headache from all this reading.

I just ordered my first ecig kit - I ordered a Volt.

I'm hoping I made the right choice. I've been smoking for 40 years - up to 2 packs per day of ultralights (and I couldn't smoke at work!) I want to quit in the worst way - i'm sick of the smell, sick of the stained smelly house, and sick of not being able to travel and socialize with friends who are non-smokers.
I'm hoping that ecigs are the answer and hope that this website can help me.

Are any of the other noobies here as overwhelmed as I am?

Welcome to the forums! You're not alone in being overwhelmed, you don't sound uninformed...don't panic lol. As for the volt as a starter, that seems to be a very popular starting poing for many. Did you get some blank cartos/juice to check out? Half the fight will be flavor/strength, and a PV you like...maybe more than 1/2.

I'm new today also and you're doing just fine. Once you get a rig and juice combo you're happy with, you won't want to go back to smoking real cigarettes. I wasted time and money on a small ecig that was the size of a regular analog cigarette (Volcano brand). The battery life was pathetic and the blank cartridges tasted awful. If you want to quit analogs, get something with good battery life and a cartomizer that will hold enough juice to last you a while. I have my preferences that work for me but there's always something better coming down the pike. That's why we're both here - to learn about the new trends and where to get good juice.

Hi both of you! Wow - thanks for the quick replies!

I'm in Fort Wayne, where are you Hoosier?

I haven't gotten my stuff yet, but will have 2 sets of 5 samplers and I ordered a 30ml bottle of one - "Cowboy" I think. It's also known as "country"

I haven't vaped yet. I'm excited to start. I will order some blank cartos as soon as my first order arrives. Until then I will have 2 "country" cartos to refill. I wanted to order a couple other bottles of juice, but they were out of the 12mg.

I hope i'm starting w/the right strength of juice. I'm a heavy smoker, but use ultralight cigs. I don't want to increase my nicotine intake. I want to eventually reduce it.

I'm in Muncie right now, but will be settling in closer to Kokomo later today. (Use to work for a place that had plants north and south of Fort Wayne, so I've been around it more than a few times.)

If I could give one strong suggestion....

Find the nicotine level in your juice that curbs the cravings for cigarettes first. Worry about reducing it much later. Nicotine absorbsion does not directly correlate with cigarettes as compared to vaping. Your body will tell you when you have too much nicotine. Listen to your body and not your head's plans.

I had to start above 36mg, but am now down to 20mg. My body seems to have hit a holding spot at this level and I'm comfortable with letting it call the shots. It will let me know when it is time to drop again.

Remember to drink pleny of water!

Hope the detox is fairly smooth for you.

Welcome to the forum. im newer to this forum as well but find it to be a great help and information. people are nice and give good advice, dont worry about making errors as far as feeling miss informed. people understand and will make sure you know the correct info in a nice way. i havnt really seen anyone get slammed for making mistakes like that. you sound like me when i first started vaping. you want it to work and it does. i was a 20yr pack a day smoker and the day i picked up the ecig was the last day i smoked. i feel so much better even in the little time ive quite analogs (7 months) with the rite equipment and flavors the transition will be subtle. and the cool factor helps lol. the volt is a decent one, reviews are pretty good so you should have no problems. my advice is to start with a higher nicotine level and work your way down. ive changed over most of my friends to the ecig and even people i dont know just hanging out somewhere with friends. i find most of the people that ask me about it in public are like us and truly want to quit. i tell people that not-so-great equipment and bad flavors turns people off instantly. so get the best you can afford at the moment and do a little research. Also not everyone just quits, if you have a analog or 2 its not the end of the world. even if the ecig helps you to cut back your still on the rite track.

I am completely overwhelmed as well!

I finally bit the bullet, and ordered a starter kit last week. Not sure if I made a decent purchase or not, but I ordered a Joyetech 510-T, and 3 10ml bottles of juice. I'm really confused as to what spare parts I need to have on hand...

Atomizers, juice are the main things to have on hand or at the very least coming in the mail soon...

As you're from Indiana, if you get in the Anderson region I'd be happy to show you all of my equipment, juices and everything and help explain what I can the best I can. Hoosier actually did that with me and I'd be happy to pay it forward that same hospitality.

Otherwise, the tips already said in this thread should be a good start. A few things to touch on (again in some cases):

1. Drink LOTS of water. In the start, it helps to have a small sip (enough to wet your throat) after every single puff.
2. Go big or go home. While it hurts to drop large numbers in the start, you save in the long run. Most vapers end up with a high powered expensive VV mod in the end, and you can save a lot of money just jumping right there. While it may be too much for you to begin with, it can ultimately save a lot of money.

As for your most recent post saying what spare parts to have on hand:

Again, I'll echo what Hoosier said.

But also have a spare drip tip on hand if you're using breakable tips (especially if using glass tips or something. Last thing you want is for that sucker to break and you have nothing to use.

Spare juices, and lots of flavors. Sometimes your favorite juices just burn out on you and you need to mix it up. Do so!

Atties/cartos and lots of them. They go quickly and unexpectedly. Always have spares.

Batteries. If using a mod, always have a spare set of batteries. If using 510s etc always have a spare. Think of it as like a lighter, you don't want to run out of fluid and have to run to the gas station.

If you use it while vaping, it won't hurt to have a second one.

North Anthony Discount Tobacco 260-482-4070 3404 N Anthony Blvd Ft Wayne, IN 46805-2234

Welcome! Don't be afraid of being uninformed. The people here are really understanding. No one's gonna talk down to you :) I don't use the Volt personally, but I've heard good things.

Just remember, keep on keeping on. Don't expect changes overnight. Some people will smoke and vape at the same time for a while, and that's okay, as long as it gets you to your goal. I wouldn't say ecigs are the solution you're looking for, but merely a tool to get you to your goal. The solution lies withing yourself. You've got to find the motivation in yourself to switch. You have to want to vape and not smoke. And I'm not going to lie, after about a week off cigs completely, I'm still struggling sometimes not to pic up tobacco again. But it's a journey. But ecigs do make those urges bearable.

Good luck to you!

Like you, I'm brand spankin' new to vaping. My husband and I got our Volt kits on Saturday and the switch is so seamless! I'm really happy with how it is working for us. It's such an easy system - just screw a carto into a charged batt and I'm good to go. With our kits I ordered 2 packs of pre-filled cartos (sample packs) and 2 packs of blank cartos that we're using to try out different flavors. You may be surprised at what you like - I smoked Marlboro menthols for years, and so I thought I'd like the menthol and mint flavors, and really didn't even want the fruit flavors that came with one of the sample packs, but my three favorite flavors are RY4, white mocha late, and cherry. I normally HATE cherry flavored anything!

This is a great point. I've often said that the flavor that makes the switch easy is never the one you thought it would be and is almost always the one you thought it could never be.

The concept of trying things outside of what your mind is thinking it wants is very important. I never would have made the switch to vaping if I had not tried some of the weirdest flavors I could think of. One of those was "it". The rest was as easy as forgetting to smoke after that.
