rounding third and heading home...
every time i charge the ipv1 using the usb port it always reads "low res" on the screen even with the same tank i was just using prior to charging. i have to open up th back , remove the battery , wait a few seconds , re-inste battery and turn the unit off and on. if i am lucky, it goes back to the 10 watts default screen and i can set it and use the unit. sometimes it takes 2 or 3 cycles of this routine before it returns to normal. i have never had this problem when i just open the back and swap out the battery for a new one. has anyone experienced this behavior? has anyone heard of this? what is going on in there? since i can eventually get it back to firing i am not sure what to do. returning it is probably not worth the time and money since i bought from a vendor in israel. any help or trouble shooting tips would be greatly appreciated- i am almost reluctant to use it even though after it comes back to normal it seems to fire with no problems. i will only change the battery now and not use the usb to charge if i have to but something ain't kosher inside there....

This is definitely not normal behavior. If it was me I would have it exchanged. You don't have to ship it to Israel you only need to ship it to asMODus (the warranty center in the US). It's your call on if you want to keep a defective unit or not, after all it was your money that purchased it.

Safety flaw on mine:

Short-circuit protection isn't working on my unit. It never says check atomizer when there's nothing attached either. More importantly, it continues to fire when shorted unless the short causes the resistance to go below .2ohms, in which case the "low res" error comes up.
Mine doesn't detect shorts either, its supposed to say SHORT if it detects a short(I think), whats worse is when it shorts, it reads 9.9 ohms and keeps firing with the voltage all the way up...

Tested it again using a pin to short the 510 connection. It did say "low res" but it kept firing, enough to weld the pin to the outer rim of the 510.

I'm not really comfortable using this when you consider the erratic resistance readings. Main reason I go for regulated devices is for protection after all.

Mine says "check atomizer" when nothing is connected, however when I do short it the device reads "low res". As far as I know this is normal behavior.

Edit When my device reads "low res" it is not firing at all anymore.

Mine fires even with nothing attached, makes a clicking noise.

So you just put a safety pin on the screw and fired it?
Mine fires without a topper as well. I think the newer batches say "check atomizer".

No, I used the safety pin to connect the surrounding negative to the positive pin. It showed the error message but kept firing anyway. I think it just doesn't act fast enough, which is no good.

Gotcha, I'll try that and see what mine says

Edit: Welded the pin to the positive. Reads .3, so I assume my pin is .3.
Tried it with a strand of 26 gauge, fired for a sec then reads low res.

Edit again
I think they are all supposed to say check atomizer, after it was thought that "check atomizer" was a firmware upgrade on the newest batch, someone said they have had theirs for 6 weeks from the first batch and theirs reads "check atomizer" with nothing attached. So who knows if its an upgrade or not

I just used a micro screwdriver and touched it to the positive pin and angled it to touch the wall. Mine didn't fire and the only clicking noise I ever hear from mine is the click the buttons make when pressed.

J-wrap...I was led to believe that the cutouts were left on the page they send..cuz I wanted the plastic side covered.. and I wanted to see if the touch screen can be covered by part of the wrap..

No...an open circuit is an atomizer without a coil on it..

Edit- also with the custom wraps...it's $10 more, but they always print out two.. and I was told 9/10 the customer gets both copies...so I got two of those wraps...when I get my ipv3, I'll do my own design, instead of sending pictures in to them with directions..

I charge mine via USB and it doesn't say anything , your turning off the unit before you charge right? Thats what i always do and no issues , I have not charged it without turning it off first .

Mine is an early unit and it says "check atomizer" when nothings attached.
