There are different types of "chips." there are ones that only can be programmed once and that's it. Others can be programmed multiples times.

Also in a chip that can be programmed multiple times, the code owner can decide to lock the chip so it can not be written any more.

Sometimes when the chip can be upgradable, USB is not the interface to do it. So if the USB port is not internally wired to "talk" to the chip they may use a serial port directly to some pins on the board.

This applies not only to vape gear.

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
That's not necessarily true, the manufacturer could put different firmware in the chip when they are made and have them be set that way, and it would still be an "upgrade" from the past chip. Also I don't think the USB port interfaces with the chip on this version, like you were saying, and most people aren't going to have the technical knowledge to do it any other way.

Most people means" me " to put it in easy to understand terms lol . Remember manufacturers are always going to offer new and more enticing things , yes i know it sucks for us but thats just the way it is.

There is plenty of info out there to take advantage of and determine for ourselves if a device meets our needs or if we may have doubts and maybe better to hold off.

Plus its not like these are 300 dollar devices, if I feel the need to have a dual battery, user upgradeable chip, I will sell mine for 50 to a friend and buy the new one.

That is exactly my plan.
leave it as a backup, or sell it to a friend.

And it just arrive today at my pobox plus one week to arrive at my hands. Currently I'm outside the US, and thinking getting it directly to Mexico it's just not gonna happen .

One thing I don't like about the IPV2 is that it doesn't display what the mod is actually sending to the atomizer. For example, the Sigelei 30W will update the display in real-time to show the actual voltage and wattage when you fire it. If I have 0.5 ohms on my atomizer, and I set my Sigelei 30W to fire at 11W, the display updates to show that it's actually firing at 25-28W because it doesn't do step-down and is limited by the voltage of the battery. On my IPV2, it doesn't show anything different, just that it's set to 11W.

Yeah, it's definitely a "budget" board compared to the other SX boards. It's also a little less accurate.

Actually it seems to be in reference to any iPV model , people want to hear what others iPV's do , doesn't matter if it's a 50 watt or 35 watt , it's the same chip and same box .
...

Rather than the chips being the same it seems much more likely that the IPV V1 35 watt uses the YiHi SX330 V1 35 watt chip and that the IPV V2 50 watt uses the YiHi SX330 V2 50 watt chip.

IPV2S using an upgradable SX330 V2S chip. Here's another video:

Now that is cool. IMO anything that is user upgradable is a better deal as fixes for the bugs that are found in the first runs can be repaired by the end user. That was one of the main draws of the SX350.

I must admit that I wouldn't normally care about water resistance but last weekend I dumped a canoe at scout camp. Luckily my phone was in a ziploc bag, but my ego and EVOD clearo wasn't. They both survived and I wouldn't have shed a tear if the ego died, but if I had a $100 mod in my pocket I'd be pretty po'd.

I like the design refinements and think that they (YiHi and P4U) are doing good things for us (consumers). Now if they would just hurry the heck up and get these things to the states!!!!!

One of the best features I thought i saw the 2s has is the part where M1, M2 etc came up. Looked like you could set those to presets, kinda like a radio. Anyone know if thats actually what that was?
I have a sneaking suspicion I will buy one of these to add to my black and silver IP2. Might just have to grab the 35 and 100 watt and have the whole set.

Well, have the whole set for a month or 2 until they release a IPV3S and IPV 250 watt

The SX350 has that ability so I don't see why not. They have the code already developed and dropping it in another device should be a trivial task as long as there is sufficient program memory to implement that function.
