Here's a photo of MyEcigs that I painted. They were plain white to begin with. It was fun. And now I think they look more like designer pens which was the look I was going for. :)

I'd like to change the color of my flame as well. I've been too chicken to pull the battery apart to see if I could slip a gel in it.

I've been wondering about that too.
On my Ruyan Cigar there's a tiny LED in the battery compartment (almost looks like one of those surface mount LEDs) that looks like it could be desoldered and replaced with a different color...

A gel or filter might work too.

I might have to pull a cap off my penstyle battery and see what kind of LED it uses.

People mod handheld gaming consoles all the time. I wonder if we could adopt some of their practices for modding e-cigs. :thumb:

What kind of paints did you use? Did you have any problems with peeling paint from warm atomizers? Just curious. Let me know what kind of paints you used. I may make my own pink e-cig. :) But then again, I love the marbled look of yours. Maybe you can PM me and let me know how you did it? Or post it here?

Thanks you guys for all the compliments! I prepped them by wiping them down with rubbing alcohol, then dried with a paper towel. I used FolkArt Enamels Acrylic Metallc Paint for glass & ceramics. The little piece of sea sponges were wet first with tap water, then squeezed out and towel-dried. I sponged little dabs of one color, dried with a heat gun, then dabbed some more of a second color. I kept doing this for about 5 times so I was building layers. To cure the paint it has to air dry for 21 days, although you can handle them when dry. You can also cure them by baking in an oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. I didn't want to chance baking them so I'll just baby them for 3 weeks. (No just throwing them in my purse!) The brand of e-cig is MyEcig.

I have a boatload of arts and crafts supplies. I go to Michael's and Pat Catans all the time, so if they're not at Michael's, they'll be at Pat Catans. I also think you could be very creative with all the stuff they use for acrylic nails - tiny stencils, rhinestones, decals, etc. I think the hardest part was masking off the ends. I used blue painter's tape for this.

I wish there was a reputation option on this forum as I'd toss you some.

Thank you for the detailed info. I'm shocked you used the heatgun! I work occasionally with lucite and a heatgun - and would be very afraid of hitting up the battery or the plastic pieces.

So, the only problem is you can't return them if the battery or atomizer doesn't work (or can you?)

How about a spiral stencil job? Can you put a stenciling tape on it when it is dry? Or would you have to wait for the first color to cure?

i wouldn't try putting tape on top of paint that wasn't fully cured, but I'm sure it would be fine after it was cured. Also, about the heat gun - the paint layer is a very thin coat, so I just "blow dried" it for several seconds, not long enough to cause a problem. You could also use a regular blow dryer.

Janet what a lovely job you did! They are quite nice looking. :)

Oh I hadn't thought of that, what e-girl said. Maybe some of them you could paint the batteries and not the atomizers? The suppliers won't be able to send anything painted back for replacement, that is true. However it almost seems worth it, such attention getting ecigs!

I had a dead battery laying around so I took it apart to see how the LED was attached and if placing a gel in the tip would work..
It looks like a gel might work, on the other hand it looks like replacing the LED would be a little tricky unless you are handy with a soldering iron or you can find the LED already soldered to a nice round pcb that is the same size..

Here are a couple of pics, hoperully they will give you a better idea of what is involved.. (Apparantly I cant post URL's yet so if you want to see the pic's PM me and Ill send you the link's)
