Passaic (NJ) City Council bans smoking and e-cigarette use at parks and within 35 feet of city-owned building entrances.

Mayor Blanco claims “This will prevent kids from seeing people smoking," while former NJ Health Commissioner Fred Jacobs claims “kids are influenced by the conduct of adults. A 100 percent smoke-free policy sends a clear message that smoking is never an acceptable norm.”
It

The ordinance was proposed by e-cigarette prohibitionist Karen Blumenfeld, who has falsely claimed since 2009 that e-cigarettes emit secondhand smoke.

Where I lived in NJ was population 200 but from what I remember about Trenton that means if you want to smoke/vape walking downtown you have to do it in the middle of the street.
For the record, our 15' rule has been protested with people smoking in the road downtown and nobody has ever been arrested even though disrupting traffic is not a legal form of protest.

This is what happens when law abiding civil people who just try to get along with others are challenged. They remain law abiding, civil people. It is much easier to take away the freedoms of decent people than those that are not civil. You see my friend uncivilized individuals will go beyond civil disobedience they will tear ..... up... Us good folks are victimized by this injustice everyday in our "free" society... I wish I didn't need a clean record to adequately support my family. It is funny to protect our freedom you just about have to sacrifice your freedom to make a difference.... Shame...

This makes me so mad I want to spit. If I was living in that area, I would be organizing a Vapemeet BBQ in a local park.

Yup.... that's probably what I'd do.

How does this prevent kids from seeing people smoking? Is there no TV? No Cable???? No movies??? Nobody at all smoking in this town?

It seems that New Jersey is the leading the charge against electronic cigarettes.
And it seems like Karen Blumenfeld is the cause.

It's up to New Jersey vapers to change this dynamic.
And we are all more than willing to help.

I wonder if Karen Blumenfeld drinks coffee.
Probably she does, and is perfectly content to do so.

How hypocritical is that?

Mayor Blanco claims “This will prevent kids from seeing people smoking," while former NJ Health Commissioner Fred Jacobs claims “kids are influenced by the conduct of adults. A 100 percent smoke-free policy sends a clear message that vaping is never an acceptable way to stop paying excessive tax money. Children who witness successful ways to stop smoking cigarettes are advertising by word of mouth to their parents, teachers, neighbors and even to complete strangers. This, of course, lessens our chances of socking it to the people before we manipulate the voters into raising the taxes on NRT's and personal vaporizers.”

What a load of bull. Oh yes, walking a bit down the street magically prevents pedestrians from walking on the sidewalk? Or children with their parents walking on the side walk? Banning vaping or smoking from outside entrances isn't going to stop anyone from seeing it. This is just plain stupid but the scary part remains to be "What's Next?"

I think New York is already showing us what's next in their discussions and various ban attempts...
http://www.inquisitr.com/254108/nyc-obesity-ban-may-expand-to-include-popcorn-and-milkshakes/

--Banning sodas over 16 ounces
--Size limitations on movie popcorn
--Size limitations on milkshakes
--Size limitations on certain coffee drinks

Not to mention their incredible attempt to ban freaking SALT in restaurants!

Mayor Bloomberg should be removed from office.
He is a poison to the concept of freedom.

Ignore the statists and their stupid laws. Everyone else does. 100s of people yapping on cell phones while driving. Good luck enforcing this one. Don't let these assclowns and yenta politicians have more power than they think they do.

I vape in my office in NJ all day. Not a damn thing they can do about it.

I grew up in Passaic, and my parents still live there. They live in the nice part, and I still dread visiting them. Their schools are among the worst in the state, the crime (mainly downtown) is absurd, but this is what they worry about. Pathetic, but not terribly surprising based on what I know of Blanco...
