Passthrough Improvements

So Steve posted this in another thread, and I decided to be presumptuous and start a thread for PT improvement ideas, starting with my own:

Leaford will be in China at end of month, and will make enhamncements on our passthru's, so, please, give us ALL your wishlist's, and comments.

So: What I'd like to see is:

• a more flexible cable - so it sits on the desk easier
• shorter and (slightly) fatter - It's not going to go in a case, or a pocket, so something that fits in my hand better would be nice
• not cylindrical - I want to be able to put it down and not have it roll around
• perhaps a 'hanging hole' - so it could be conceivably hung up on a nail or something.
• Adjustable voltage - so I can 'overclock it' (apparently can produce better vapour, but can burn out cartos more easily)
• A LED - Just so I can easily tell it's working (and that it doesn't get stuck)
• Manual/automatic - some way (toggle) for it to be either. I prefer auto, but if I'm typing a lot, or gaming, it's nice for it to be auto sometimes.
• Optional 'mouthpiece' - the sort you can hold between your teeth - perhaps could be plugged onto the end of the cartomizer (this isn't so much PT as a generic attachment) for use on auto mode.
• as light as possible with the above features - some sort of rubber-plastic type construction should be sturdy enough and still light (and a little rubber-ish flexibility would make it more comfortable)

Anyhows. Them's my ideas. You'll notice they tend towards the customizable, so that one PT can suit all users in all situations.

I agree, I would like something shorter, as well. It'd be a little more balanced and I think it would be less likely the wire would jog lose, or what have you.

The change that will have the most impact but won't cost much time and money would be "the cord". Only two minor modifications would make a big difference! A flexible but solid terminal into the e-cig tube and a partly accordion wiring would make this PT much better.

Adjustable voltage - so I can 'overclock it'

Not sure this one would work without making it a more expensive unit. The PTs draw power at the standard USB 5 volts. A higher voltage PT would require the unit to have a built in battery pack and voltage stepping hardware. What would be really awesome is if there were an AC powered PT running at 7.5 or 9VDC. You'd burn cartos like no tomorrow but your vapor plume could be seen for miles.

As for my wishes, Chucky kinda nailed one of them with the cord. I highly recommend getting PTs made without the 'ash cap' at the end, to be replaced with a standard strain-relief connector.

Slightly off-topic, but I think it would also be awesome to have V4L branded USB AC adapters.

So I went looking for the correct terms for the cable parts - thinking if I could properly define what i mean when i say "flexible cable" - that sort of solid construction you see in high end headset cables that's very flexible but very strong and rotating grommets - to prevent the cord from getting tangled - winding up on itself, and found that it's bloody hard to find anything specific enough to be useful
So all I can give really is to hope you've come across high quality microphones or headsets (seems high quality audio gear usually gets it right) to see what I mean. I think the cable insulator plastic is usually more of a silicone rubber than an actual plastic, if that helps. Or the other type that seems to be some sort of mesh insulation.
If anyone can find any site that gives a description/comparison of cable types and/or whatever you call the part where a cable connects to a device, lemme know

Those are all great suggestions. Some of them, like the adjustable voltage, might have to wait until we are ready to create our own Vapor King Hybrid model, but some, like the cable improvements, sound pretty doable. Lemme see what I can do, and keep 'em coming!

i think it should be as short as possible, without an led, and a high quality cord with a rubber stopper to stop it bending at the battery connection (like the PS PT) i think it should have the manual and auto select, but i think it should be like on the janty kissbox where you can swap out the auto and manual switch, this would save weight.

Sounds really cool but I believe the max voltage on a usb port is 5v and I thought the passthru already ran at 5v.

If I am right you might be able to add more power threw your motherboard if you got a good one but I wouldn't want to forget and plug anything else in one of the ports.

True, some people only have USB ports on the backs of their computers - and no other USB ports in their house! (To say nothing about those people who don't even own a computer...) I have mine hooked up to the side of my 24in. monitor (no front USB ports - installed a fan instead...lol..) and when I sit back in my chair, I don't have that much slack, surprisingly. A more flexible or coiled cable would certainly be appreciated, but I think going any shorter would be a bad idea - unless Steve want to sell 'shortie' pass-throughs for all of those laptop owners out there...

I would tend to agree with solidifying the cable connection (although I have had no problems with mine, I know that others have) and definitely an LED light would help considerably in knowing if the button is stuck in the on position!

Other than that, I love my PT's!!!

Hmm well if you were to make different style cords it'd make since to have a smaller connection an inch or two from the pt. Sort of like the original microsoft xbox controllers how it connected near the controller.

But imho any regular cord style is fine. If I had to be picky, maybe a thinner lighter cord would be a bit better, more like a skullcandy headphone cord where its rubbery and doesn't try to hold any particular shape

the thinner the cable the more likely it is to break. Thicker is better if you want ti to last.

Some of us would like to keep the length, I'm sure. For those of us who need the length, could you continue to sell the same type, or compromise with an accordion type? I honestly couldn't utilize a shorter PT. Thanks, V4L.

I'm guessing if it was lighter the length wouldn't be a problem - it's not really a problem in itself, just that it adds excessive weight.

perhaps if it had something like:

to support and solidify the cable connection, then this would help take place of the 'holdable length' of it also?
I've seen the above connection type thing done with wire wrapping before also, on audio equipment I believe, and it seemed pretty sturdy and prevented the connection from getting wiggled too much

I'd like a PT with a long cord (at least 4 feet), and one that I can just plug into a wall outlet without the USB connection. I already have way too many power-draining devices hooked up to my computer.

There is no possible way to please everyone. There are three items that need to be done....a LED light added, a 10 sec cutoff to both the auto and manual, and a restrainer for the cord. Maybe a sturdier cord but I believe the main problem is where the cord enters the passthrough. I am sure the lack of the restrainer is causing the wires to break off where they are soldered on the inside, as well as breaking inside of the insulation where the cord enters tha passthrough.

IMO...I would like for V4L focus on the battery end of things. If they come out with their version of the chuck, I think many will prefer that over the passthrough.....but yes, the passthrough does need the improvements I noted above for safety reasons.

There are other things too like working on getting the juice consistent and some carto improvements.

PT will be a mod tht ****in delivers on charge and vapor.
hm. as will bne the batt which will be a mod that is sturdy and had the sae high power.

V4L just added the 'unset cartmizers, whih whill, tt their current price, be a 'must have' - the empty art
+ 5ml juice is a WIN for all of us.
Add a mod batt and all 'regular' users are set fopr life.
I wish i had the cash to order now, I'd ordr like 30 empty cartos and a doxen 5ml juices.
all that is missing is 2 thbings:
a kickarse high quality expensice) PT and a siilarly kickarde modded batt,
And those are coming
I am sensing nothing less than complete satisfaction from V4L
