PayPal responds to Internet fury over its new terms of service

PayPal User Agreement: New TOS lets company call and text you anytime | BGR

Well, if I cannot opt out, I will be closing my account. This will interfere with some transactions for me, such as possible classifieds here. I may just close it even if they do let us opt out. When they tried similar Bill Me Later terms of service conditions, I closed my account, and told them why. Just the fact they think they can get away with this, ticks me off to no end.

I'll probably close my account too.
I'll probably make a point of closing it on July 1st. If a lot of people close account on the same day, it ought to ring a little bell somewhere.

They have my email address, so they could have sent me a note first; instead I found out the hard way while trying to pay for an item.

Aye this is utter bs to be able to sell our information like that despite ever being on a no-call list. Although if this is the case and they continue to stand by it the mods I dare say will have to explore other avenues of approach. In which case they have already such as Google Wallet for instance.

I'll probably close my account and I refuse to use Google Wallet. Not sure how someone got it as I've never used Google Wallet. Someone had my credit card information and bought $100 worth of stuff through Google Wallet. I don't trust that place now because of it.

I am curious from a moderator perspective on here. If we verified our account using paypal, will we still be verified if we closed our paypal account?

I don't know what ECF will do about this. But yes, being verified may be a problem. The more I think about this, the more I believe I am going to close my PP account. I hate that I may miss out on a good classifieds deal in the future, but it is the principle of the thing for me. Hopefully this will be discussed. I will wait for them to say something. I don't want anyone calling me. I sure don't want texts either. Plus I don't want anybody else having any of my personal info, unless I give it to them.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the above but for a couple of months now Paypal has refused to transact any orders that include the word Nautilus. If they are going to stop dealing with anything that has to do with vaping (might has something to do with the anti-vaping EU directives, IDK) then I might as well close my account as well.

Paypal USA has always had a problem with vaping but (till now I guess) it was more the juice. You can use Paypal for e.g. FastTech and English juice orders. They've just always been :censored:heads in the States. Basically sounds like Paypal was bought out because of that useless prat Icahn on the (EBay) BoD who probably just wants to kill it dead and appears to be succeeding from the little I've read so far.

I am not in the US and the Nautilus stuff I bought and which Paypal refused to handle was off Fasttech. I have had no problems ordering any other vape related items using Paypal. It is just "Nautilus" they seem to have a problem with... at least so far. Also I still use Paypal for any eBay purchases.

Wow that ain't good then. Maybe we should write to Fasttech and have them call them pyrex test tubes or something!

Thanks for posting the info kkay.
Sad to say, but I'm one of those who often doesn't take the time to read TOS agreements. My time is better spent doing other things. That said, I don't like being jerked around either.
PP needs a little reminder that we're their customers and not their subjects.

No harm in trying and it actually might work. Fasttech can be very accommodating. They have an option for discreet packaging. I never asked for it but all my stuff comes marked as "gift". That might help in avoiding customs though I don't really need it. I purposely keep all my orders under $40 since below that limit no customs duties apply here. And since Fasttech shipping is free it makes no difference how big or small my packages are. But my point is - Fasttech can be very responsive... they're probably reading this thread right now. :)

Been a Paypal member since 2002 and I use Paypal EVERY Day, honestly I don't see myself giving up their services as I truly have never once had any issue with Paypal doing something I wasn't ok with happening already. Way too much paranoia and over reaction IMO(People are acting like they're going to call/text you daily and sell your information to ISIS...) and sure, it's not a perfect system...but we live in an imperfect world. Paypal is ultimately a compromise, you can either choose to accept that the services they provide outweigh their bad qualities or you can choose to never use their service, simple really. With the amount of time I spend online, the least of my worries is Paypal.

I understand and agree with the disdain but to me, it isn't the end of the world & I'm not closing my PP account. With a little thought, any problem can be solved, or at least delayed

When I receive the first unsolicited text and phone call, robo or otherwise, I will promptly block the numbers. I already don't answer calls from unknown numbers and block any SMS messages that don't have a "text STOP" option.

Sure, they may have a block of numbers from which they call and text and I may have to block several but that's a minor inconvenience to continue buying and selling in the ECF classifieds.

Now, their next step may be to change the TOS again to state that if customers block PP numbers their accounts will be closed and at that point, I won't really have any choice but for now, I'm not concerned in the least.

I like PayPal. I use it frequently, and have no plans to close my account. I don't forsee myself, or anybody else, being flooded daily with multiple robo calls. Whatever few I may get, I'll block the number. Canceling my account would be an overreaction to a minor problem.

Hmmm..... I don't know if this is coincidence or not, but I had never received any robo calls or telesales calls on my cell. Shortly after receiving the email about Paypals new TOS I started getting robo sales calls from WestJet, Some All Inclusive Vacation Package company, and the Marriotte hotel chain. I know their new TOS doesn't go into effect until July 1st, but that just seems like a very odd coincidence.....
