I am shamed to have to write this, but it needs to be said.

The vaping community just lost one of its valued video reviewers. It was cause by harsh comments and personal messages being sent to this person on youtube and through her email. I spent almost a full hour watching videos coming from all corners of the vaping world, where fellow vapers were pouring their hearts out to this person and scolding the accused. This is one of the worst ordeals that we have come across in recent vaping events.

First off, every single video that is released onto the internet, whether reviewing a new device, juice, accessory, cartomizer, atomizer, etc, etc, is and always will be OPINION! There is no reason to unleash a wild string of hate mail and negative comments over someone else's opinion.

Second, this reviewer was referred to as a "mouth piece" for a certain company. SO WHAT PEOPLE, Every company has someone that they trust to beta test their products. It is how things work in the world. Even making a remark like that in a comment simply implies jealousy and ignorance. When a person develops an established reputation with a company, it is quite normal for that company to use them to spread the word on new products. The reviewer tells one person, who tells another, and soon everyone knows about this product, whether it be good or bad. This helps to fuel a desire for that product so people will buy it and then give feedback to the company so that something better can be released.

Third, to anyone who blatantly attacks another person over the internet, GROW A SPINE FOR GOODNESS SAKE! There is no lower form of stupidity than lashing out at someone about a video or comment. It is unnecessary and it impedes the natural order referred to in my second point. For someone who has done something similar to what has transpired, We as a community will absolutely under no circumstances tolerate this behavior.

Finally, to SteelJan; I hope somehow someone points this part out to you- I for one greatly valued your videos and I hope that you will find it in you to overcome the harsh people out there and bring back your video reviews. We will all stand behind you in any choice that you make here. I know that I will miss your quirky sense of humor and the angle from which you viewed things. A great big thank you from the deepest portion of my heart Jan. You will be missed on the youtube circuit. So far, three good video reviewers have left us: That Guy In The Fedora aka MoobyGhost, Phee303, and now SteelJan. If we do not take a stand who else will forever turn off the video camera?

Thanks For Lending Me Your Ears,
D

Steeljan was pretty cool, albeit a bit eccentric, she was a good reviewer and I really enjoyed her content.

That being said, I haven't noticed any "bullying" going on in the vaping community. Whenever I see someone disagree they always put things very nice and clean, with no harsh words exchanged. It seems odd to me that she would be bullied by the vaping community, it seems to be full of nothing but friendly, helpful people. I'm sad to see her go, and I'm sure there was something going on, but it seems so alien to me.

If it had anything to do with pbusardo then I'll be a bit shocked, as the exchange between both of them was very calm in comparison to some of the other drama I've seen on youtube. I really hope this wasn't the case, but maybe someone can shed some light on the entire situation.

Sad to see her go, she will be missed :(

I am a new vapor (approx 3mo.) Alot of the vet's and the youtube reviewers helped me find the perfect PV and kick stinkies. It is a shame that some spineless coward is out there e-bullying honest people. It is really sad that people cannot honestly express thier opinion without retribution. That is the greatest part about reviewers, they give an honest review about a product backed with some kind of fact. Yes every review is subjective. I really wish that whoever this(these) cowards are would be brought down. It is too sad that because they don't agree/like what someone has to say they take bullying as an option. If you don't like a review video or otherwise keep your opinion to yourself. If you have an opposing view on a review do so with some maturity. I have been a member of forums for years and flamers are not welcome in any community.

Without knowing the facts, and I'm sure this will get me flamed and bullied, I think that when one puts themselves out there, as though there opinion matters, not saying it does or it doesn't, then one should expect some criticism, its par for the course. The fact is, she did a video, asked for the support of the vaping community, as far as I can tell she received it, and I have seen no one bashing her, but it wasn't good enough, so then she quits. That'sfine its her right. But I find myself hard pressed to beg her to "come back", when I have yet to see her be bullied. The only example anyone has pointed to is Pbussardos video, and if that is what constitutes cyber bullying, then we are in a sad sad place.

I agree with jkmtwo. Look at the comments on pretty much any Youtube video.... the internet is full of idiots. If you put something out there and allow/invite comments, you're going to get a wide range of comments. Some of them might not be what you want to hear, some might be downright stupid. I think the "Grow a Spine" comment from the OP would apply as much, if not more, to someone posting content than anonymous posters.

I got a little worried when I saw the second sentence, then I saw the "her" thrown in there. I thought you were talking about Pbusardo at first and he's my go-to youtuber for equipment reviews.
I've never seen any of her videos. What video/comments prompted this thread?

So this chick quit because of negative comments? If you are going to put a video on YouTube then you should expect some extremely negative comments because that's just how YouTube comments normally go if the video gets a lot of views. You should read some of the comments on the channel "communitychannel" She gets a lot of negative comments but she brushes off the negative ones and continues to make videos because she has quite a few viewers that enjoy her videos.

All of this "flamming" shouldn't be any news to any of you guys. Sadly enough, electronic cigarettes are still new to the society. Many people do not know what they are- and the health benefits they follow. If something looks strange to one person, depending on the maturity or that individual he or she will make sarcastic comments.

It's about non informed people. And sometimes the informed can be ignorant. There's a ton of people on the web. Each person comes with its own personality. I'm very, very, very sad to see her leave.

I have to point this out as well, there is one thingI have heard no one speak on, money, there are people with an insane amount of money tied up in this stuff, if a reviewer prefers one vender, or one product over another, you have to expect the vender getting the bad review, or less favor, is going to look for a way to impune that reviewers opinion. If you want to be a reviewer and you don't understand this, then you shouldn't be doing reviews.

Believe this, if it was me, and the choice was feeding my family or hurting some old woman's feelings....guess which ima do.....

There has been the Mention for some Reliable sources that She Received Death Threats.

I'm not saying this is True or Untrue. I know though that if I had done as much as S.J. to Help People and I received Death Threats over a Carto Review that it would be time for me to Leave Also.

I am bummed. I never saw a video of SteelJan's I don't think, but being pretty new, I go on Youtube and watch a lot. As a heavy previous smoker, every bit of knowledge, and strength right now I can get is a great thing, and supporting others as they embark and continue on their journey is my thing too.

We meet all sorts of people on these forums, and none of us really know at first glance what someones life is like. This forum covers the entire United States and even goes Internationally. There are people from all walks of life. Presidents of Companies, and former Presidents of Companies that their business' have went under and they can't afford to smoke and they are looking for an alternative to save money. People who have lost a love one to Cancer and want to quit. People who don't want their babies smelling like smoke, and want to live to see their Grandchildren, and the list goes on....

There are Blacks, Whites, Asians, Mexicans, Buddists, Jews, Christians, Gays, and everything else in our beloved rainbow of Humanity.

While the Provari is nice, not everyone can afford one. A lot of people quit smoking to save money. When recommending product please remember that. Some people may sound like spokespeople for different companies. I may be guilty of that being new. Hoosier Ecig, Backwoods Brews, and E-Cig City have all had excellent Customer Service for me and offer decent products at fair prices... I recommend them a lot.

I think this is a wake up call to our Family, if it was someone from our family that caused the hurt and pain. In any family there is dysfunction, and we don't do character screens here, so ... we have to take the good with the bad.

The delete button can be our best friend at times.

I hope that SteelJan comes back, now I want to watch her videos that I know about them, and it sounds like pulling them gives in to the bully's.

You don't know when you are posting what is on the other side of the PC. Your post, your kindness, could save someones life, brighten a day, get them off of that last analog... you just don't know.

Done with my rant :)
