Ok, this just literally happened so I figured I'd throw it up here.

I've stated on here that I don't allow vaping in my business, and the reason for that. I hardly ever see anyone try, but I'm happy to report I noticed someone vaping during a league tonight (bowling alley). I was standing behind the lanes just watching my customers bowl, and a female came back and sat at one of our back tables and begin to "Stealth Vape." Of course I know what she's doing, so I go back and sit down and ask her what she had, but she really didn't have any idea, her son had bought it for her. I was shocked to see that it was a Vapor King, but anyway talked to her for a little while about it, showed her mine, and then told her, as long as nobody notices or says something to me about it, it will be ok. She agreed to be discrete and I walked down the concourse to continue watching others bowl.

It was about 30 minutes later I was again back around this lady's lane, and another female came up and was talking to me about something non-related. She noticed the other female vaping at the back table and turned to me and said:

"See her using that "fake" cigarette? Really? I just don't understand how some people just HAVE to have a cigarette everywhere they go."

I asked her would she rather the lady be smoking a "Real" cigarette? I said "At least this way she's not adding to the wall of smoke right out the front door that I have to walk through to get into the building. At least she doesn't smell like a smoke stack when she comes up and talks to me."

The lady says, "It's just substituting one crutch for another..." I said, "Well maybe, but at least our government hasn't told me whether or not I can or can't permit these inside my business. At least we still have a choice to enjoy our nicotine without being frowned upon as much, and at least we have a healthier alternative besides breathing in car exhaust.." Then I reached into my pocket and pulled mine out... The lady looked at it and said, "I didn't know you smoked?" I said, "I don't smoke, these have kept me from smoking for almost 5 months now. I feel great, and can still enjoy getting a nicotine fix every now and then and this is how I do it.." She turned her nose up and walked away.

This is why ecigs will never be mainstream. People don't understand them, nor do they care. They still look at you like you're a dirty smoker and that's just how it's going to be...

Oh well, Vape on!!!

How do you educate people that don't want to be educated. Thats a real obstacle I haven't run into yet.

The best thing I have found is to saturate people that smoke with information and try to get them vaping.

Have had a few that just couldn't (or wouldn't) get off of analogs, but the upside is.. they are now staunch supporters of those who vape, and will defend the rights of those who tried.

At least thats a step in the right direction.

I know a few of "those" ladies...(and some of them are men )

I guess she's never needed a "Crutch" in life, eh? Lucky her.

Your post made me giggle, because about a month ago I was in a bowling alley and I was vaping. I was all the way to the far end of the place, so I wasn't exactly "stealthing", nor did I have a spotlight on me.. but I was looking around to see if anyone griped. No one did...So maybe I evened it out for ya a bit? ;)

Keep fighting the good fight.

I  my crutch.

There will be those who never understand. But, on the other hand, how many people in your life, that are non smokers, who are happy that you are vaping. In mine, there are a lot, but I will say 10.
Now take 100,000 (a low count of the people now vaping) and times that by 10.
THAT is a large number and it grows daily.
Some how this has become a majority rules country and, if allowed to continue, vapors and those who see the good in them will outnumber the naysayers.

I think so far we have been very fortunate. When trying to come up with waterproof carriers etc at Home Depot, Sportsmans warehouse and what not, the non smoking staff have not only been helpful but enthusiastic and encouraging. Even our local tanning salon/hair dresser welcomes them and thinks they are great. so far so good, I am sure we will encounter the other mindset somewhere down the road.

Coffee, is some peoples crutch. Being stuck up, and a snob, is some peoples crutch. Looking down on others, and thinking that you are better, is some peoples crutch. Food, is some peoples crutch. Everyone has a fault, problem, etc. Trying not to understand, was her fault. A shame really. People need to be more understanding, and forgiving.

I've found that some ex-smokers (pre e-cigs) are the worst, that they believe their accomplishment in quitting cigarettes is somehow greater and more valid than anyone using a "gimmick" like an e-cig...no matter that that they might have used gum, patches, inhalers etc. for months or years to quit...they struggled, damn it!

I once had a manager who was an ex-smoker. His reputation preceded him and people told me that I wouldn't get along with him at all. When he came to our team (field technical reps) I made it a point to not smoke around him. We'd do a site visit with me riding in his vehicle and I would wait to smoke until we got out of the car.

He eventually tapped me for a tech specialist position much to everyone's surprise. Given his distaste for cigarette smoke, and the fact that we would be visiting accounts for site reviews and customer meetings, they just didn't think I would fit.

I think he respected the fact that I accepted his feelings about cigarettes and respected his desire not to be in a closed area with smoke. This was late 80s and there were no "smoking areas" or inside smoking rules. You could light up anywhere except computer rooms and other sensitive equipment areas.

Once day he confided in me that sometimes cigarette smoke just smelled great and there were times when he wanted to grab my cigarette and smoke it down to the filter! It wasn't that he hated smoking; he just never completely got over the desire for tobacco.

There are those people and there are the ones who have been inundated with the views of others who hate the smell of smoke while they are eating in a restaurant. It was the restaurant crowd that started the whole thing.

I've had moms with kids give me the evil eye and rush their kids into a store when I was standing 30 feet away off to the side of the entrance. They don't realize that the fumes coming out of their Ford Exhibition are DEADLY and probably contribute to many diseases and respiratory ailments. It isn't just cigarette smoke that kills our population!

It's hard for me to imagine anyone that wouldn't hate the smell of cigarette smoke in a restaurant. I've had a few expensive meals completely ruined by someone who was smoking upwind from me. And that was while I was still a smoker.

i dont get it. mistype? or i missed other posts about not allowing vaping...
great post other than that sentence.
people (like me, not too much now) really need to feel they are on the path of right, i mean they know everything, have an anwser for everthing, and they do no wrong...shiny, i do 3 wrongs before i get out of bed hehe, and feel i`ve risked my life a dozen times just driving gf to work, ( if i didn`t, i`d see her about 2 hours a day)
i am moraly superiour than you, ladeda nannynannyboobo mind set is why things like the 2012 end of the might cause bad things to happen.
hey look that person is really having a good time and look happy, hrmmmwhat can i do to unshiny that...is the another mind set, has to be experenced to be belived.
what if everyone before opening the mouth to speak (hehe, me post) thought "i am in their shoes" i sometimes pull that off, but i admitedly have the the irish red head mind and miss often the chance for enriching for the better someone else, (i react as acted to, the customer is not always right, the customer is insane)
people, at large, in large groups, either in a group or by them selfs in public really put a mind set on and leave no room for a change of heart, because it ( in there little own mind) leave them open to invasion...
and to clear. i am asking about the second sentence, and NOT trying to be better than you or be above you...:)

Everybody has a crutch.

Thank you. I'd like to slap that ..... in the bowling alley upside her empty little head. The sanctimony! There's a lot of things I don't 'understand' about people: why people need to bring their crying babies to movie theaters, why people get married 4 or 5 times (I mean, maybe it just isn't your thing), why people choose to live in icy cold climates, why people think hummus tastes good.....it could go on forever. But the thing is, I don't feel like I NEED to understand everyone else's choices in order to support their right to have them (except for the babies in movie theaters....a definite no no). I don't think their reasons are my business, nor are they subject to my holy approval. As far as crutches go, using 'crutches' is a normal part of the human condition. We all have different ways of coping with stress and different ideas of how to entertain ourselves. I'm sure that .... has no issues whatsoever with her 'crutch' of morning coffee every day, or her gossiping, or whatever else she does. How about CHURCH as a crutch? Even if someone has no substance related vices at all, they definitely have something, even if others can't see it right off the bat. Things that come to mind are folks who can't seem to stop having one bad relationship after another, drama filled social lives, internet addictions, compulsive shopping, etc. Frankly, if you are one of the few, mythical 'perfect' people then you're also boring as hell. Often flaws are what make people interesting. Being a busybody know it all, however, does not make someone interesting.
