Is this music wire available locally, Home depot, hardware stores, ect? How hard is it to cut into short lengths?

After thinking about it, for the music wire, or similar, I think the local hobby shop might be a good place to go. I think that RC cars and airplanes use this stuff, or something that is not easily bendable anyway.

Yes any hobby shop should have it. Also called piano wire sometimes. 3ft costs me 65 cents. You'll need a pair of good qualty cutters or a dremel to cut it. I use mini bolt cutters. Ig normally comez with a black surface from forming. Be sure to clean it off. I polish it off.

They also make carbon fiber rods if you want to be cool.

I would slap my mama for one of those jigs, that is a SWEET little piece of kit!

Oh, now you have me thinking... Blast!

LOL, i'd kill for something auto that made wrapping tight, wraps-touching coils easy, but i suspect the jigs/clamps/etc still require a goodly amount of hand-eye coordination, neither of which i possess.

All jokes aside. What type of batteries are you when doing sub ohms.
I've got my new Lil B. ( same colors as the ride in the avatar. ).
And was just courteous. I made a clamp jig that works ok for me. So what battery to choose. I've got the Grand and also 2 Reo 2.5 18490-18500 mods.
Thanks family!!!!

The only batteries I use in my REOs are AW IMR in the size the mod was designed for my man :)

Well I'm in very good company my brother. I likes my AW batteries. All sizes of them. I figure if Reo, Provari, super t, and all the rest suggest them. Then I should be good as gold.

If one could get a slow enough running motor with a lil' bit of torque it wouldn't be too difficult to make a powered winder. Like a really cheap power screwdriver... With a small chuck... I CAN SEE IT NOW I MUST MAKE IT HAPPEN! :p

Something like a wind up music box. Take off the figurine or whatever on top and wind a wire around the axel that turns? Just thinking out loud! Mgyver something!

In the mean time I cut a small 2" x 1" block of wood and put a screw on one end and drilled a 1/16" hole on the other, left the drill bit in the hole gave it a tap to keep it secure in the wood. I just put the coil wire under the screw and wrap around drill bit similar to DZ coil jig.

I've said this before in other threads, and I'll say it again, I really enjoy threads like this, as far as tools go anyway. Someone comes up with an idea, and away we go. To see the simple, to the more complex ideas, and the evolution of those ideas that follow, is really interesting. That, in part, is what it's all about, IMO. Keep at it guys!

Darkzero - what about knocking something like this up, maybe with a few of your curves on it to make it look pretty

I did the exact same thing the night that Russ posted the video!
Darn. I kept meaning to post of picture of it in this thread, but I'm usually only on here during the day, and my homemade jig sits at home.
I'll post a picture of it tonight.

Great REO minds think alike! :)
Not as fancy as Dark Zeros masterpiece but hey, it works the same way and only took me about 5 minutes to make as I was staring at a little block of wood sitting on my work bench and got a ahah moment! :w00t:

Good idea....

Actually my original idea was to make some sort of winding handle. But that would taking much more machining & not worth the extra trouble so I came up with something simpler & more compact. :)
