Hi all,
At only 32 I have quite advanced periodontal disease, part genes, part poor oral hygiene, part smoking. The periodontist is very happy with my hygiene now yet things are still slowly deteriorating thanks to smoking. A friend gave me a vaporiser to try and I'm shocked to find just how satisfying it is. I think it could be a long term solution to give up the cigs. My question is has anyone out there who's been vaping long term with perio disease seen it improve. I know the nicotine in itself can be part issue but I'm thinking I can reduce that too? It seems very hard to find info on this and would love some 'first hand' accounts over the 'inconclusive research' I can find online. Thanks heaps in advance ✌️

Welcome to ECF! I'm not a dentist, but I don't believe it's the nicotine in cigarettes that harms your gums...it's the aldehydes, tar and carbon monoxide that do the damage. I know that after I quit smoking and started vaping, my pale and lifeless gums became pink and healthy, and improved drastically.

Well, I had perio disease as a smoker aaaaaand I still have it as a vaper. In part because I require 3 very expensive bone graft surgeries and, well, I'm poor. My insurance won't cover enough to put them in immediate reach. I can say that my perio disease has not gotten any worse and would probably get even better if I were super on top of my hygiene. My periodontist wants me to brush, floss and rinse after every time I eat anything. I have three kids so taking care of myself gets pushed to the back burner more than I like. This is only my opinion, but vaping has improved my overall health including dental. It can dehydrate the tissues of your mouth though so just keep a bottle of water at hand. Good luck!

Welcome and glad you joined. I have had a very similar (not advanced though) dental background as you. Brushing 3 times a day has completely stop bleeding gums(+flossing before bed). Now is a good time to mend your ways.
