Hi ECF, new member and first post outside new members forum. Unfortunately it's with a problem.

I am experiencing worsening throat irritation that I am pretty sure is related to my vaping habit. It is not so bad in the morning, but as the day goes on it worsens to the point that each drag feels hot in my throat and makes me cough. What gives?

I have read that this is not uncommon, but I have also read that this is generally due to either PG sensitivity or analog withdrawals. However, I do not believe this explains my problem. As far as withdrawal, I ceased smoking analogs almost six months ago and believe I have already undergone and completed withdrawals. As far as PG, I have not experimented with a lot of liquids, but I have been using PG based deodorant for years with no issues.

So I am at something of a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as vaping is becoming frustrating and ineffective and for the first time in half a year I am thinking about buying analogs.

Cheers, JH

Oh for the record, my setup.
Clean Cig auto battery with 18mg cartos that I refill with 24mg liquid from local vendors. Yes, I know this is a very cheap, unsophisticated setup, don't laugh. I'm poor.
I have been using two of these batteries and the same cartos for almost six months without abovementioned problems. Only difference is I have begun refilling the cartos to save money.

I found that I could not vape high pg juices without having a sore throat.

Things like deodorant are not the same as inhaling.
Also make sure your cartos arent burnt. That could also make your throat sore. Ive only been able to make a carto last about a month before the sore throat or horrible taste kicked in.

PG sensitivity is quite often the cause but it could be other things. Like the juice you are vaping. The flavoring may not be agreeing with you or is too high in PG. Are you drinking lots of water? Vaping dehydrates you and if you throat is dry and you continue vaping while not drinking enough water that could be making the problem worse. Also too high of nic could be the problem. Have you tried lowering your nic level or trying 100% VG juice? These 2 things could help narrow down the problem. Then again you could have an illness that could be causing the sore throat like strep throat. If none of these things help I would suggest you see your doctor. Drink lots and lots of water. :)

I have not tried a higher VG concentration yet. Sounds like I ought to. Local vendors are not informed enough to tell me the ratio of what I've been buying.

I did not know a burnt carto would cause this problem. That may well be it as I only recently started reusing them. They do not seem to perform as well refilled I have noticed. I generally only use one for a week or so but these may be low quality?Or not intended for refill.

I am considering a kit from Halo. Anyone know if their liquids are PG heavy?

Also thanks for all the quick feedback. What a great forum.

There are quite a few juice vendors that let you pick the PG/VG ratio when you order. It doesn't look like Halo is one of them.

I make iced tea by the gallon and keep it in the fridge in glass jugs. I drink tea or water ALL the time when I'm vaping. I find when I vape a lot without drinking liquids, it makes my throat scratchy, even with high-VG juice. Dehydration is NOT your friend, and vaping dehydrates the moist tissues in your throat.

And DEFINITELY try some higher-VG juice. PG sensitivity is actually very common...

I got that soar throat in the beginning from dry hits, not saying that is what is going on for you, but was the cause of mine. Once I got rid of the dry hits, the throat issue ended. I will still get a pain if I inhale a dry hit from a burning atty. Hope you find the cause, so you can enjoy your vape.

I just got over a sore throat last week, and now today feel one again, got a burnt taste not paying attention on my juice level and then I started to feel the soreness return, wondering if I re-aggravated it. Anyway I was wondering if anyone was experiencing the same thing when I found this post. I am going to put in a fresh coil. I have an EVOD and LOVE it! super easy and consistent vape. Easy and inexpensive to maintain. I just recently went back to 18mg and changed from 50/50 to 65/35 because I was missing the "throat hit" with the 50/50 12mg so I guess I will be wondering if the nicotine or pg are causing it as well. Congrats on being off analogs for 6 months! I am approaching the end of 5 months.
