Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and wanted to ask a question. I know with media, there's millions of different opinions and speculations about risks and even life threatening issues about e-cigs and what they can do to our bodies. I use a istick Picco, with a standard .3olm canthal atomizer and typically keep it around 22-28watts. Knowing there's people on these forums that have a lot more knowledge then I do, is this a "safe" number range to be on? Thanks.

Hi and welcome! Not sure what you mean by a "safe" number, but if your 0.3 ohm coil is giving you a good vape at 22-28W without being too weak, too hot, or getting dry hits, sounds like you're in a good place. Not fast and solid rules. Everyone has their preferred "sweet spot" for the kind of vape they like. And a 0.3 coil at <30W is more than safe as long as you're happy with the vape.

If you notice no discomfort you are probably just fine.
Some folks can't tolerate certain flavourings.
For me it was Licorice, Cinnamon, some Rootbeers.
Some don't vape PG some don't vape VG(me)
For different reasons.
If something in a new liquid bothers you?
Don't vape it. Only you know if you feel good or not.
In almost 5 years I have not smoked around 50,000
cigs. If I had smoked them I'd be in a whole world of hurt right now. Vaped my face off instead and feel fine.

If it works for you I wouldn't care one bit about the latest fearmongering "scientific" study.

I sure don't. Don't believe a word of it. Cause I know how much better off I am personally.

But I cannot speak for others, only myself. Cheers.

First off, welcome aboard.

Second, there is no magic number for what wattage is safe. If you try running 20 watts on an old ce4, you are going to have a REALLY bad time. If you try running 20w on something like a TFV4(for perspective, I am currently running my TFV4 with the quad coil at 110 watts and happier than a pig in a mud puddle) like I am using right now, you probably won't even get it hot enough to produce any vapor at all.

Since you said you are running a pico, I am going to assume you are using a Melo 3 tank. If that is the case, the 0.3 ohm coil has a factory rating of 30-80 watts. Realistically, I wouldn't recommend going all the way to the top end of that range, but you should be fine anywhere under 50 watts unless you are hardly moving any air over the coil. The main thing to look for is that you aren't getting burnt hits. If you do, you will know it. It will leave a horrible taste and your throat will be pretty unhappy with you. If you are getting smooth hits with nice vapor and flavor, you are doing great. The best way to find the upper limit of the wattage you can safely run for your coil is to start at a low wattage, and then raise it a little(just a few watts at a time) every few pulls. When you start getting even the slightest burnt taste, you have gone too far. Back it down 5 watts and try again. If you don't get that taste anymore, you have found the limit of that coil. If you are happy with the vape you are getting right now, I would just tell you to stay where you are unless you just want to play around some(personally, I am guilty of always wanting to play around).

In addition to all that, most flavors work best at different wattages. Some will really come alive at lower wattages, and then taste like crap at higher wattages. Some will taste like crap at lower wattages, and be amazing at higher wattages. Just start low, work up slow, and find the sweet spot for the juice and the coil. An example of this is my peppermint juice, strawberry juice, and grape juice in my TFV4 tanks. The peppermint is great at 70-80 watts, but becomes nasty at anything over 90. My strawberry is just a "meh" feeling at 70 watts, but when i crank it up to 90-120, it is an excellent flavor. Then I have my grape flavor that doesn't really seem to care what wattage I run. If i go 70w, it is pretty good and stays pretty much the same all the way up to about 130w. My cinnamon roll juice gets good around 50-60 watts, becomes excellent at 60-70 watts, and then starts being horrible after 75w.

Lies. Big Tobacco, Big Pharma and the government have been conducting a smear campaign aganst vaping to mitigate the revenue they are losing to vaping.

Hi & welcome Zdubb
I must have missed the life threatening issues with vaping because I'm not aware of any. If you are referring to the battery mishaps then those folks that have already responded to you seem to have covered that issue well. With today's modern protected mods this is pretty much a thing of the past and you really do have to try hard to get yourself into a risky situation and on the way you will most likely be more than aware of the risks you're running. Use the gear the way it was designed and you won't have a problem.

As to the general safety of vaping and its effect on your health, realize if you used vaping to successfully stop smoking cigarettes you have dramatically reduced your risk. If you are a non-smoker who's taken to vaping, it appears to be safe in both short and intermediate term. Whether safety remains in the long term (>15 years) is still to be determined. Despite that safety profile, realize that if you are a non-smoker and vaping just for the sake of it, it is likely to be riskier (although probably by a very small margin) than just breathing clean air.

Welcome and glad you joined. There is a saying that you can't be too careful. Good question.
