Petition to White House makes many false fear mongering claims about nicotine, advocates banning all tobacco growing, sales and possession, eliminating all tobacco regulations and tax revenue, criminalizing all 70 million tobacco consumers in US (to protect them from themselves), and creating a huge black market for tobacco, e-cigarettes and NRT.

Only 15 people have signed the petition, which has zero chance of being approved by Congress (and very little chance of being proposed by any member of Congress who wants to be reelected).

Yikes. Looks as if the writer of this petition has been drinking ANTZTM Kool-Aid.

Nicotine is a powerfully addicting drug with no medical or mental health benefit.

It is sold only to enrich those who sell it.

Nicotine causes irreversible brain damage in the majority of users.

Limited exposure to nicotine is highly likely to cause a mental craving for nicotine that does not go away in the victim's lifetime.

The CDC advises that the vast majority of nicotine addicts want to stop using nicotine, and cannot.

There is no cure for nicotine addiction, and no treatment with a reasonable combination of safety and effectiveness.

Nicotine addiction takes place within the first few days of nicotine use. Once addicted, addicts are chained to an unnecessary major expense, and are at elevated risk for early death. This is because long-term use of nicotine damages human cells.

It's too bad that petition site doesn't identify the sponsor/writer of the petition beyond "Creator: Caroline C."

I picked this quote because any person like myself on this forum can tell you this is pure hogwash "There is no cure for nicotine addiction, and no treatment with a reasonable combination of safety and effectiveness." Uhhhhhh yeah there is.... It's called a ecig/pv...... I tried their gum, patches, classes, pills, etc. Only thing that worked effectively was a ecig.

It was the Antis of the early 20th century who brought us Prohibition of alcohol and all of the idiocy that followed.
They do not realize what they are asking for. If a Prohibition on tobacco were instituted it would not be long before tobacco gangs take over their neighborhoods/businesses, killing each other in the street over tobacco. It would not be long after that the Antis beg for the law to be repealed as unenforceable and disruptive.
They cannot prohibit something that has been in use freely for hundreds (maybe thousands?) of years without some significant consequences and repercussions.
The Antis also seem to have no grasp of human nature. Everything around us continues to change, but human nature basically remains the same and what happened way back then during that Prohibition CAN and WILL happen again.
