I have only been vaping about 2 weeks. I know this will help me kick that bad nasty habit. The only juice I have used to this point is Halo juice. After 2 weeks my throat still gets that sore scratchy feeling after a couple inhales. Halo doesn't make public what their PG and VG mixture is but, they do say it's higher in PG. My question is, does the higher PG cause that scratchy feeling in throat because I'm thinking maybe I need to go with a more balance of PG and VG. The nic level is 12.

PG can be an irritant and some people do have reactions to it, especially in higher concentrations (i.e. anything above 50/50). If it's starting to bother you and doesn't go away, you need to find a juice with more VG than PG. It'll be trial and error to find the right ratio, or you could be one of many that simply can't have PG in their juice.

How long does the feeling last? (note, I am NOT a doctor, but this is common)

Hydration may be part of it, but I'd say he's one of many that simply can't use the high levels of PG many vendors place into their juices.

If there's an option with the vendor your buying from, choose a 50/50 or 40/60 PG/VG ratio and see if that clears things up. If it doesn't you may need to go High VG, Max VG or whatever vendors call it (note: both of these terms normally still have 5-10% PG on average, so it's not a full VG blend). If there's a 100% VG option, you can try that as well.

Just a forewarning though, VG is thick and PG is what thins out the juice, so wicking will take longer with higher VG mix ratios. These really work better with RBA's and non-silica wick (that's my experience).

Hydration, hydration, hydration.

I was getting the scratchy can't quite clear the frogs out of my throat feeling and my head was swimming recently. It occurred when I went from vaping my e-cigs with cartomizers to my Halo Triton with T2 and Smoktech Tumbler tanks. My original recipes were 18 mg 70PG/30VG, they're still great for my ciggy but way too harsh when using my Triton. I made up some 12mg 70PG/30VG recipes and that did the trick for me. I still get the flavor, nicotine satisfaction, and a great throat hit without swimmy head and scratchy throat. Perhaps it's the difference between sucking the juice through batting and getting pure juice with a tank.

You may want to make small tester batches of 2ml with 1ml of your juice and 1 ml of 50PG/50VG and then another with 70PG/30VG to see if that helps your throat when you vape it.

I am very curious what the PG/VG mixture in the Halo juices are.

I am also new to vaping and tried Backwood Brews and it gave me a headache- I read the BWB is 100% VG, though it may be one of the flavors that didn't agree with me. Im trying to figure out if I need to eliminate VG or just BWB.

I tried Halo and had a great vape, no headache, I like that its thinner and seems to wick better in the cotton with the Kayfun and seeps the cartos better. I'd like to try other juices, mainly because Halo is the most expensive juice I have seen. Knowing the % would help me to determine whats next.

I will say, I had the same problems when I started vaping, and I started with Halo also. I always had that scratchy/ sore throat, like I was about to get sick feeling. Part of it was needing to drink more water, but part of it was also just something different being dragged across my throat. It did go away after about a month. And while I have had other problems related to juices with too much PG, it hasn't been a problem for my throat. And I still use the Halo products.

Backwoods is all 70/30 PG/VG, except for 2 flavors which are 30/70 PG/VG.

Not sure which flavor(s) caused your vaping-related headache, but I know I had a negative physical reaction to a clove flavor by Johnson Creek a while back. I used to vape plenty of juices from them at one point, and none ever caused me that reaction. So, for you it could be a particular flavoring, or it could be the PG.

Anyway, to answer the OP's question.. for me, the higher the PG content, the more I get thirsty & get the scratchy throat. That doesn't happen with a high-VG. (Also, a tank with a higher-PG mix tends to vape quicker, in my experience.)

Obviously the more VG, the thicker it's going to be, which can cause some performance issues. A lot can depend on what set-up you use and at what voltage/power/resistance.

To each his own, as we all have our preference. Your best bet is to experiment with the PG/VG until you find what best works for you. :)

It may not be PG per se causing the irritation. Many factors go into it. IE: Voltage and ohms, bottom vs top coils, flavoring and, of course, nic along with how much vaping is being done and your own particular sensitivity. Some folks smoked unfiltered Camels or Lucky Strikes and some could only bare Ultra Light whatever. I've seen people who, to me, must have callouses in their throats as I could never stand the setups, nic levels or heavy irritating flavors (like red hot cinnamon) they use. Dilute what you have with VG and go from there to determine what's giving your throat a problem. But when you do realize you'll be lowering nic in the process and it still may not be PG but the nic level causing it.

Edit: btw, personally, I would never buy a juice from a vendor that didn't tell me something as basic as pg/vg content. its not like they would be giving away their whole recipe to be copied after all. I see absolutely no reason to keep that kind of info secret.... seems a bit elitist to me and I don't like that in any area including vaping.... just me.
