No such thing as a dumb question as far as I am concerned. I think this is a very good question and can help many new people.

In my opinion. . .

A 100% pg base is the preferred method if planning to freezing nic

The percentage of nic in a juice is what is responsible for the amount of throat hit

vg produces more vapor and is sweeter than pg

Why do you feel PG is better for freezing? Less chance of separation?

To avoid oxidation in nicotine you minimize exposure to uv light (which is why it is recommended to use amber or colored glass bottles) and oxygen. Vg being more dense is one of the reasons I prefer freezing in pg because I feel like air can be trapped in those tiny bubbles. PG is used in inhalers because it is resistant to bacteria. I have read where people freeze in both or a mixture of both so this is just my opinion based on different references and my own experimentation. The nicotine I have used that was never refrigerated has had some oxidation. I am assuming this is why I have noticed darkening of my nicotine. (I have not noticed any change in flavor) The nicotine I have frozen, is still just as clear as the day I packaged it. So that is my reasoning for what it is worth.

I just spent 2 days trying to decide which to buy myself also. My original thought was to order it in 50/50 because because i mostly vape 50/50 but then I realized i want to start adjusting slightly to see if I am more happy with a slightly different ratio. So now i'm BEYOND being indecisive as to what I should order my nicotine in and mad at myself because I needed to get it ordered today. lol

As log as your total base + PG + VG even resembles what you normally vape, you will come out ahead, cost-wise.

In addition while freezing, PG remains in liquid while VG becomes gooey and requires some time outside the freezer before becoming liquid again, which makes PG easier to work with.

Best practice - to keep any refrigerated chemical closed until it reaches room temperature. Otherwise it will absorb water.

I strongly believe there is no practical difference between PG and VG base for long-term nicotine storage in a freezer.

I echo Nightshard. I not only keep some nicotine in the freezer, but a small amount for regular use, in the fridge. When VG is cold, it has the consistency of honey, and trying to suck that up in a syringe is a non-starter; you have to let it become room temp to work with it at all. With PG nicotine, I just take out the small (30ml) bottle when I need it, and it sucks up in a syringe as fast as room-temp PG nicotine does. Then I can close it and get it back into the fridge before the temp changes much at all, so no condensation to worry about.

Boletus......I like 'enough' vapor cloud, is what started the 50/50 but I vape different ratios in a day, (a few times a day I vape a juice with more pg because i can feel more throat hit and I crave analogues less) at first I thought it was logical to order my nicotine base 50/50 and I could still easily make 60pg 40 pg juice . (the small amount i had that I was playing with to start was in a vg) But now I'm wondering if I should just order it in pg....LOL I may end up deciding I like a 70pg 30 pg juice for all I know. :) that's why I can't decide!! Coin toss???

Just get the PG because it's easier to work with when it's cold; VG is cheap, and you can add however much you want to any recipe, and you don't have to keep it cold, so it stays easier to work with. I mainly keep my "working supply" of PG nicotine in the fridge because it's dark more than it's light in there, and light seems to be the big baddie with nicotine degradation.

I vape exclusively 50/50 right now and I have my NIC in a PG only mix. It is LITERALLY meaningless... There are some long term storage differences as PG has a reported shelf life of maybe 2.5 years, who really lets their NIC sit that long anyways? I bought my NIC in PG because that is what my vendor had in stock at the time. I have a full gallon of PG and another full gallon of VG filler to work with. All it means is you will have to use more VG to make a 50/50 mix. The reverse would also be the case if the NIC was VG. I didn't know what I would prefer so I figured it really didn't matter... and it doesn't. The one and only time it would matter if is if you wanted to make, say , a 100% VG mix and your NIC was in PG instead and then a small % or your juice would HAVE to be PG because that is what your NIC was in. The flavors I have are also in 100% PG so I hardly put any PG in at all in my DIY mixes and I have to put a LOT of VG in to make a 50/50 mix but it doesn't bother me at all because as soon as I run out i'm considering going full VG to balance out what PG/VG I have left in my vape chest. (The large chest I have all my vape stuff in to keep it from my 2 year old son and the dog.) So, the moral of the story is, if you are SURE you want mostly PG then you may as well use a PG NIC and if you are SURE you want mostly a VG then use a VG NIC or if you are SURE it will be a close to 50/50 or maybe a 60/40 then go 50/50. Trust me, the ratio of your NIC is by far the least meaningful thing to worry about in the grand scheme of things.

Are you sure of the % you are most likely to use or do you have no clear idea? I didn't have the slightest clue as to what I wanted so I just had to wing it when I first got started mixing my own.

On a more serious note, Good luck. Mixing your own ejuice is a very rewarding thing and not to mention its a boat load cheaper than buying anything at all from the net and most certainly form those overpriced B&M shops. Once you get into it you will love it.:toast:

I selected vg because i mostly buy 36mg/ml nicotine, and prefer higher vg juices. When I want more throat hit I increase the nicotine level.

pretty difficult to mix an 80vg/20pg 10ml test batch with 100%pgnic. Never really seen people making 80/20 pg heavy juices. But I am new around here.

I make mine 85%-90% PG.

I think I'm ordering it in pg. I'm thinking of storage since I'll have more of it than before. I've been mixing long before I started vaping. I didn't switch from analogues until august lol but was mixing juice before that. The nicotine was only 36mg and I already had pg and vg from other things I make.(and tons of flavors also) So when my daughter and her besty started using vapors I thought, you guys are paying too much for your juice at the same time my daughter said "couldn't you make it for us" (because of other things I make) I said well I'll have to study about nicotine and I ended up with some without having to order or buy it. But now its more about me than it is them hahahahahahaa.

as for those that say you get more throat hit with higher nicotine, i agree yes, but I do notice a big difference with higher vg juice having less throat hit than a higher pg. anyhow, i spent a week thinking I was ordering nicotine in 50/50 and after reading some things above and elsewhere I think i'm going with pg. Now I'm also changing my mind about ordering 100mg nicotine but this thread is about the solution to actually order the nicotine in so I guess I have to find a thread elsewhere about that tehehehee
