VG is thicker, produces the vapor, is slightly sweet, and smooth.

PG is thinner, carries flavor better, not as smooth (which can add to throat hit). Those last 2 points are debatable.

As to what's the best ratio for you, only you can decide that. I suggest making 3 small sample sizes in 70/30, 50/50, and 30/70. That way you can have a wide range of PG/VG ratios to try so you can make an imformed choice. :toast:

Thanks for that. Exactly the answer I was looking for. And good advise.

I use 85% PG / 15% VG in my mixtures. I have no desire for large clouds and prefer to use less flavoring.

The last vape meet that I attended there was a large percentage of people vaping 80% VG 20% PG blends. Wingsfan0310 has good input. I would not shy away from even lower VG percentages, just keep in mind 0% VG in your mixtures will result in very low amounts of vapor, to the point where some even wonder if their equipment is functional.

You prefer less clouds and less flavor? You are the first person I've heard this from. Am I reading this wrong?

50/50 is the most popular ratio in most commercial blends.

And just to re-iterate from my personal experiences, PG carries flavor a lot better. The difference between flavor in an 80/20 VG/PG mix and a 100% VG mix astounds me - as in much better flavor in the 20% pg mix versus one with none at all.

My observations regarding the DIY sub-forum specifically is that there are many people who use higher concentrations of Propylene Glycol due to the effect is has on flavor mentioned prior.

Increasing VG will generally require more steeping time, and my assumption is that increasing PG will lower it. With that said, I do not have much experience with PG.

We vape "max VG" (the only PG is in the flavors); our VG is diluted by 20% (with water, saline & pga)... and we strongly disagree that PG "carries flavor" better than VG...and so do many DIYers that use only VG.

We know that it takes longer for the flavors to disperse in VG due to it's thickness & viscosity - and if a VG mix is taste-tested against a PG mix before the VG mix has had time to steep, it seems that PG 'carries flavor better'.

Also, PG has a very distinct musty taste, and more flavoring is needed to counteract it (most won't taste the musty-ness of PG until they've vaped without it for awhile).

We typically use anywhere from 10-50% less flavoring than is recommended in recipes that we find - and vapers that have tasted our mixes do not feel they're underflavored.

What we discern from reading the DIY forum is that many stick with PG because of the TH; because it easily dilutes the VG and because they think it's a better flavor carrier.

That's our opinion based on our mileage and extensive testing. Bottom line is: do whatever works for you!

As I'm always reading mostly except in the few occasions I feel like being ornery or agitating, I constantly come across advice given that seems more than likely something someone has read somewhere and perceives it to be true and thusly spreads it around....but I do so find it interesting when someone comes along that has done some seriously extensive testing to the contraire...probably why I take popular opinion with a grain of salt as most popular opinion is hearsay...

Whatever happened to the good ol days (about a month ago) when the biggest challenge I faced was what ohm my dual coil is going to be, and what battery I needed? I thought I was in over my head then!

Now I have a whole new world to ponder! What mix ratio, To steep or not to steep. What goes with what, What flavor percentage to use? The list goes on and on!
