I'll agree with 50/50 - good flavor, reasonable TH. However, I know I'm a new guy here, but I'm going to disagree with the posts suggesting higher PG for TH. Here's why:
In my experience, higher PG does indeed give higher TH, but it's more of a burn-y kind of TH. Maybe I'm really sensitive to PG (actually I know I am - so take this advice for what it's worth). But, to me, if you want a cig-style TH I'd actually suggest bumping up the nic; like, up to 18 mg. Your body is going to want nicotine and all the other junk in the cigarettes - don't be afraid to go higher in nic. IMO the better TH comes more from nic, and it has the added bonus of satisfying the cravings for cigarettes.
When I started vaping, I was in a similar situation: I smoked half a pack a day of Camels and wanted the strong hit in the mouth and back of the throat. I read all about PG vs. VG as well as how much nic to use per fraction of a pack you smoked, and bought a bunch of PG-heavy juice (30/70 VG/PG, and some 20/80) at 12 mg. After day 2, I woke up with a horrible - HORRIBLE - sore throat. Thought I was coming down with something. And I wanted a cigarette, badly. Two more days went by, resisting the urge to smoke, and drinking tea, emergen-c, all the usual head cold stuff. Didn't work. I decided to try some VG juice on day 4, so I bought 80/20 also at 12 mg. The next day, my throat started getting better. But I was lacking TH and still in nicotine withdrawals. So I bought the exact same juice, this time at max VG and 18 mg. Got my TH. No sore throat. No urge to smoke, AT ALL. Made myself a tiny bit sick from so much nic after a few days, so I was happy I had the 12 mg still around to step down to.
A week later, I tried my 30/70 (VG/PG) juice again - sore throat came right back the next day.
Now I routinely use 50/50, 80/20, and max VG. Made it down to 6 mg, about to step down to 3 mg. Don't need the TH anymore, just needed that to quit the analogs.
P.S. I run max VG in an Aspire Nautilus routinely with no real wicking problems. Gunks up coils like crazy though lol, I go through 1 a week minimum. But still cheaper than smoking!
EDIT: Just re-read and saw the 1.5 pack a day note. If I was in your shoes, I'd start at 24 mg - started a friend up there and it was the first time he said, "I have no interest in going for a smoke." Camel filters pack a strong punch, you'll need something strong to simulate that. Don't be shy to ask for the heavy stuff! (like I was...!)
