I don't freak out about it, I just specify the ratio. No matter which way you do it, you're gonna offend someone. I started vaping only during the time period when VG was often listed first, so that's that, for me.

Standardization is nice and all, but vaping is changing rapidly. As long as it's clear (I have been known to reverse my ratios by accident on occasion, unfortunately) I'm not sure it matters so much.

When I started mixing I labeled my written recipes VG/PG/DW. Then it dawned on me if I was robbed and I lost my computer/phone my recipes will still be saved on ELR. Haven't written anything down since. Well I do occasionally scribble a recipe idea on paper or a napkin.

I don't think both need listing to begin with. More often than if asked about my juice I answer 80vg or max vg. Language and vocabularies evolve. Vaping is so young it's pretty much a given that the terminology will change as the culture matures.
Fraction-free since mid-2015 :toast:

Now it is do you dtl or mtl, and let's not forget restricted.

Agreed. OTOH, I do restricted lung hits on everything I vape even if I set up a tank for 10 watts. I think MTL vaping limits power range significantly while DTL is pretty wide open as long as you're willing to spend some time inhaling :)

There are so many variables in play with this stuff, and the more someone knows about vaping the wider the limits become. This is something I really appreciate about vaping.

MTL is frustrating for me. I do vape some of my juices RL. That's what I love about the Nano's, versatile af. How boring would this forum be if all did the same thing!?

:offtopic:How are the VDWs going? Full strength and mobility now?

Yup, having options is really nice! And I'm the same way with MTL ... it's just not a good vape experience for me.

It's been 7 months now. I can do a 2 mile walk with Sadie without the cane and I'm in less discomfort than I would have been after 3/4 mile before. Mobility is also better than in years. Even walking on icy sidewalks is manageable. Progress has become pretty slow lately, but considering I can walk better than I have been able to in years, I'll take it happily with absolutely no complaints :)

It's been a great experience so far and I'm confident it will still improve. Going to start biking again as the weather improves and that will probably help too. I'm happy now I was not able to sell my old touring bike a couple of years ago

It's not the draw style that limits the power, it's the resistance and airflow. Most MTL vapers use a VERY tight airflow and a > 1 ohm resistance that makes them use less power. I personally use a very loose airflow and 0.5 ohm coils so I am usually around the 30 watt range (double to triple normal MTL power) to MTL with.

In my experience resistance doesn't have much to do with it. You can build a 0.3 ohm SS coil that is happy at 10 watts, or a 2 ohm Kanthal coil that's happy at the same. Coil wire gauge and length affect heat flux and coil mass and are very important to designing a build for a given power range.

On the airflow, It's not necessarily the available airflow. You can do MTL hits with a more open draw, you just drag slowly. The thing is, when you MTL you limit the total air volume moved to a mouthful which is generally less than a long, really restricted DL inhale.

Then again, all that really matters is that you like your vape :thumb:

Yes I did leave out coil mass. A large mass coil (Claptons, Aliens, Staples, etc.) will indeed need more power at a given resistance than a single strand low mass coil at the same resistance. I was also speaking in generalities not trying to cover every possible case. I was more trying to point out that draw type is not the primary factor in how much power is needed.

Edit: Then again my watts are regulated by TC, so whatever watts it takes to get my coil to 435F is what it is going to use, regardless of what coil I throw in.

AAAAh the good old days when VG was considered an optional extra (cough cough)!
Half a dozen years ago the predominent ingredient was PG and was listed first. Nowadays the reverse is true and so VG is listed first. Makes sense to me.
Yeah, strange change of direction over the years. Folks were certain that if they didn't get a lot of throat hit with a ton of pg and high nic that they'd return to smoking. Now, if they can't get the clouds is the thing. Vg was to be mostly avoided due to clogged coils and low flow.
    Whatever keeps folks off cigs...
