I've read recipes that call for
30% VG
30% PG

and other recipes for ONLY PG no VG

and other recipes for
25%-30% PG
25-30% Glycerin

My question is Why Glycerin?
Can you have a recipe with ONLY Glycerin and no PG or VG?

In addition, I found 6oz pure glycerin 99.5% anhydrous at CVS pharmacy today for $5. Will this work for recipes?

Thanks in advance.

All I can say is that straight glycerin as a cutting agent produces great vapor. I have used some Liquid Express 36mg VG and mixed it down with flavoring and get excellent vapor. I am starting to think there is a point at which you get great vapor and a point you get diminished vapor depending upon the juice mix. I am sure those forum members much more experienced with juice mixing can make some general comments that clear this issue up.

I went to Hobby Lobby and found Wiltons Glycerin in 2 oz bottles.

I took 1 oz of Glycerin and 2 drams(7.4ml) of Loranns flavoring(english toffee) and then added 6ml of distilled water to thin it.

vaping 0 nicotine...yayaya me :)

This is a perfect blend, for me at least.....great vapor and believe it or not I get a throat hit.

M401 btw

P.S. Also got the Loranns and a few eyedropper bottles at HL...just ask for the cake decorating isle...you'll find both in same isle.

So you can just use ONLY glycerin? You don't need to mix it with VG or PG?

What is the advantage to using only Glycerin and not VP or PG?

Also, is the Glycerin I found at CVS suitable to use for recipes?

You sure can, and from what Ive seen, its all about vapor production. As far as I know, that Glycerin is exactly what you want, if you want straight G that is. Also, If no one minds, Ill link a video that shows what pure Glycerin and a Super Mini can do.

Err.. cant post urls yet, so Ill just do this..

youtube and watch?v=zyhSAa39h6Y

I hope thats cool.

I just watched the video

here is the video: YouTube - Super Smoking Mini

he's just adding a couple of drops to a cartridge which I'm assuming is already filled with juice which contains PG and / or VP.

My question is if I'm creating a recipe to create my own flavors, I notice on the board people use VG or PG or PG with Glycerin, but never JUST Glycerin.

If it's possible to use ONLY Glycerin, why do people bother to still buy PG and VP? Seems Glycerin is easier to obtain.

Thanks again.

Halfzipp and Joe Joe, unfortunately a great deal of unnecessary confusion is caused by the terminology - but the truth is that glycerin (or glycerine) and vegetable glycerin (called VG for short) are the same thing. It's also called glycerol too!

See Glycerol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vegetable glycerin has the "vegetable" in its name because only vegetable oils are used in its making, while plain old glycerin can be made from animal fats as well. But once you have the glycerin end product, it's all the same chemical compound. And there's no practicable difference in terms of using either for making liquids to vape.

Some brands of glycerin may be thicker or stickier than others, but that's probably due to variations in water content more than anything else. You can find some brands labeled anhydrous, which simply means no water at all. That would be the thickest.

It's much cheaper at Wal-Mart - $2.99 for Humco. I finally found where they were hiding it. It's where they keep the band aids and first aid stuff. I also found Humco glycerin at Publix for $2.49.

And as for your latest post, Joe Joe, it's really just a matter of preference as between using propylene glycol (PG) or glycerin. Some people don't like using only glycerin, as it is too thick all on it's own and would need thinning with either distilled water or alcohol. And I've even seen some people post that they have stomach reactions using just glycerin.

And since the base liquid used in most commercial nic liquid out there is PG, and it doesn't need thinning, some prefer to use that, and some use a combination of that and glycerin. Some even prefer PG because of it's antibacterial and virucidal properties.

Hah, ya know I actually had a feelling that was the case but wasnt sure. Well that makes things a lot easier for me.

Thank ya, :)

So, just an update to anybody following this post. I read that the CVS glycerin has made some people sick. Somebody posted this website for VG and PG with AMAZING PRICES:

essentialwholesale.com

I decided on getting both PG and VG. =-)

Thanks again for everybody's help.

That's addictive :p I know use them for everything. All their cosmetics, additives, oils, tinctures - everything is 1st quality. Annoys me that I used to spend $$ for the same stuff with a label on it. All of ES's stuff is Vegan, Organic or both.

Yvilla turned me on to it in a different thread. And yes, the PG and VG they sell is dead cheap and wonderful.
