Cigarette Maker Exec: Tobacco Not That Hard To Quit

*snip*
A woman identifying herself as a nurse named Elizabeth from the University of California-San Francisco cited statistics that tobacco use kills more than 400,000 Americans and 5 million people worldwide each year.
She also said a patient told her last week that of all the addictions he's beaten – crack, ......., .... – cigarettes have been the most difficult.
In response, the often-unapologetic Camilleri said: "We take our responsibility very seriously, and I don't think we get enough recognition for the efforts we make to ensure that there is effective worldwide regulation of a product that is harmful and that is addictive. Nevertheless, whilst it is addictive, it is not that hard to quit. ... There are more previous smokers in America today than current smokers.
"end Snip*

CEO Louis C. Camilleri quit smoking ONCE for 3 months after a cold. What a crock!

If it's "not that hard to quit", then why are there SO MANY ways to quit?

Cold Turkey
Nicotine patches
Nicotine gum
acupuncture
hypnosis
....the list goes on.

so these people who manufacture the above smoking cessation aids can make tons of money. They are all in cahoots together and laughing all the way to the bank.

My big issue is the FDA stalling so that PHillip Morris and the IRS can figure out a way to do the same with vaping. Tax and monopolize. Its illegal in Oregon to sell these because it hasn't been proven to be a safer alternative to smoking. What a crock pot of .... this is. 400k dying from smoking per year and not one case of someone dying of I got the name of the attorney general on my vote pencil for next election on this one. Thye wont approve them till they can figure a way to tax them and big business can roll out a line and gear up for it to put mom and pops out of business. Not because they care whether or not you will get sick and die from it.

BTW the reason they claim that taxes are so high for cigs is so that it can offset the cost of higher medical costs for smoking related illness for the poor. Wonder what the excuse will be for ecigs when the tax table comes out for it?. According to this logic we should all get tax credits and subsidies for vaping. That's why no FDA approval yet.

Do some research and please help me vote em out. The only thing to do......

Phillip Morris has had an ecig developed since early 2009. As a marketer of a retail business, I had the "pleasure" of getting to try a couple they sent us to see if we'd sell them in our stores. They were one piece disposable units that were not refillable or rechargeable. Suggested retail price would have been $18 for each unit, and they were as big as any big battery mod, but since there was no way to charge them, most of them didn't work out of the package since the battery had already died.

Obviously, we do not sell them in our stores...

These are the guys that brought us things like the Marlboro Baby, the Smoking Santa, 9 out of 10 Doctors Agree Camel is best..etc

These are also the mindsets of those against the e-cig as an alternative to smoking. The fight to ban them continues and the arguments used are really crazy.

I think some of what makes cigarettes so hard to quit is that they are so easily avalible. Hell, I cant even get gas without thinking of cigarettes and how easy it would be to buy a pack.

It also does help that it is more social acceptable to smoke than say, use crack...

I still smoke cigarettes occasionally, havent bought a pack for about a week now though. My e-cigarette really helps replace the smoking habit (which I love). Its just a lot easier to get cigarettes than the items for the majority of other addictions, in my opinion...

I understand that this CEO is trying to defend his companies product, he can get in trouble with the shareholders if he says very much against them. Still he should find a better way to go about it. Although I always claimed it was easy to quit smoking, until I really tried too for a long period of time...

I'm not saying that the company has not done a lot of very sleezy things and it is inexcusable the amount of deception that they took part in, in the past. I'm just giving my opinion :)

They say it's relatively easy to climb Mt. Everest now...but people still die trying....

I looked upon quitting analogs as the Mt. Everest of behavioral change...and people still die trying (or waiting to try or not even trying or any of a dozen things)....

Quitting cigarettes is the hardest addiction to break...no question! Ask any doctor!

both of our doctors are very pleased that we were able to quit so easily by vaping. by the end of next month we will be nic free as well as smoke free, but i want my vaping supplies buried with me when i go. also want my money back for every other method i bought to get us off the smokes. vaping is the ONLY thing that worked right out of the box (USPS shipping envelope)

i can't believe there are still ppl working for Phillip Morris, how nuts are they?

I had no idea this was illegal in OR. Is it illegal to use or just to sell them within the state? Pretty stupid either way...

It kind of scares me to see what the future might hold for this product. High cigarette taxes applied to this product could kill its use for many people.

i was told that in my state (by the state) they are being taxed based on the Fed Tobacco laws, meaning nicotine is considered a tobacco product. we have gone 0mg since then. So start lowering your nic levels now, before they change the laws in your state. (the state irs creep that i called about it couldn't even find the law, but knew when it went into law and they are enforcing it in MN i had to pay some taxes on cartos that i bought from an online tobacco shop)
