BAM!! 1.0ohm coil!

I didn't use the drillbit method, I wrapped it straight, and I'm using 34ga doubled over and twisted. Vapes like a MONSTER.

In the land of no hills and red dirt
It's hard to tell what I'm impressed with more: this 'new' setup for the chalice or your all around superb tutorial!

This seems a great way to use my thick bulli materials (ie 1/32" candle wick). Liked that setup, but the wick would scorch when I hit it hard for extended periods. In horizontal mode, I could dry burn the entire setup a couple of times, then it was time to redo the entire coil and wick setup.

THIS looks like the wick could simply be extracted and replaced with a little fiddling until the coil itself gave way, which with kanthal was a lot less often than the wick itself. Excellent!

Since I just got my Chalice proper in (BFF is going to my favorite local reonaut) yesterday, this couldn't have come at a better time!

Thanks Clyde. That means a lot coming from you.

About replacing the wick... You are absolutely correct, it can be pulled out of the coil quite easily. This may be another benefit for cotton over silica. I had to change wicks last night and the cotton had swelled enough that it did not want to come out freely. I was afraid of pulling it too hard and disfiguring the coil. I just pulsed the coil enough to where the cotton JUST started to dry out and burn a bit in the center. It popped out of the coil very easily. I then just cleaned up the residue and inserted a new wick. Easy-Peasy!

So I got some 100% undyed cotton embroidery string for 25 cents last night. It comes in strands almost, would this make for a suitable wick? How many strands to use?

To make some cotton wicks for my Nhaler Ato-Miser I use 2 strands of a #4 crochet 100% cotton, don't know if these strands are the same size but it works damn well. The cotton gauze is also excellent, I've used it as an insulator on my SS mesh wick on my Maxi Genesis and also as wick in the Ato-Miser.

I have them at home, but they're pretty soft strands from what I saw. I tested soaking with water and they expand nicely, so I'm assuming they'll wick alright lol

Has anyone here came from a perfectly well working SS mesh wick to a cotton/SS "hybrid" setup and had good things to say?

Many folks have problems with SS wicks cuz they end up squishing/distorting it with their coils. You need to just lay it onto the wick. When one or more wraps bite too tightly into the SS mesh that's when problems (shorting) can occur.

This is also a fine method to use for SS.

Starting with a nice even, consistent, pre-wrapped coil, then dropping (not forcing) in a SS wick of the appropriate diameter.
