Ya, especially with a thick juice like Boba's. Once it's damaged like that, it's very dissatisfying. I'm sure in Levitas' case, the small remainder of Boba's was not helping matters. Who knows exactly what was left in the bottom of that bottle. Ya know?
I built my first coil last night at work. The lab has a big magnifying glass with a light built in. It comes in handy for those of us who don't have he eyes we did 20 years ago.
Still, the coil is ugly. I made a vertical coil with about 10 times more wick than the old horizontal coil had. I ended up with a 1.6 ohm coil, but I'm running it at a higher voltage than I was running the factory 2 ohm. The vapor production and flavor is much improved. My DIY juice is 50/50 PG/VG.
A stereo-microscope would be perfect for this task.

Stereo microscopes give you not just magnification, but depth of field, and room to work on the thing you are looking at. I removed a vas deferen from a mouse with one of those things.

Wow, I totally forgot about these things. How effective are they? Dang, for $8 I'd buy 2 in case one develops a problem.

Without the side magnifier, it has a decent viewing area that magnifies not too much / not too little, for me anyway. Too much Xs & I have to wait along time for my eyes to readjust. With the power of these, I can recover quickly.
The price was right & my eyes need some assistance
I used a fine thread bolt to make a coil, then went to put gauze in it..... realized that I had bought rayon/polyester gauze.....
What would McGyver do? I spun a rough yarn from a cotton ball with my fingers, folded it over, spun it again in reverse. It mad for a decent wick. Not great, but decent. Then I got to work, and got the idea of using a cotton gun cleaning patch.

Couple things to try.

Also, keep your coil as high as you can, if its too low it will "boil" the niquid and make it taste nasty and turn black. With my vert coil, the bottom of the coil s above the lip of the atty section.
